			In the longest versions of the [[The Jubilance\|Joyan origin narrative]], it is said that following the creation of the Isles, Jubil sailed for 15 days and 15 nights down the coast of the fresh land, in search of a perfect landing spot. On each of the days, a different of [[Auth Joye\|his companions]], impatient with him, left to settle a patch of coast (The order given is inconsistant, but the twins [[Desol]] and [[Desola]] are always said to leave first, with loyal [[Glaemus]] leaving last), until on the 16th day only his wife [[Socei]] remained. On the morning of that 16th day, Jubil believed he had finally seen the perfect patch of coast, smooth and lush. Socei however noticed a single blemish, a large bolder sitting on the edge of the water. Socei noticed the bolder while her husband had been looking away and, despirate to not have to leave him as well as the rest, acheived [[Jubilant One\|Jubilance]], and willed the stone farther inland. Upon arriving on land, Jubil finally noticed the bolder, and took note of its odd placement on the land. He took it as a sign that he was right to land there, and decreed that it a marker of the origin point of the Joyan People. For this reason, the bolder was historically known as the Soceie Stone, and the surrounding land as '''Authum''' (original land).

			In versions of the mythos that omit the 16 days, the Soceie stone is said to mark the grave of Socei, Jocul, or both. One account states that it was the stone Jubil used to crush himself, but this was likely a fabrication to drum up tourism.

			The stone was a common pilgrimage site for the Lowland Traveller Complex, though there is no sign of perminant habitation until the 19th century TT. Records attest of the significance of the stone as early as the reign of [[Kiuda Jubo Ponmecat]], and the description of it as being the "heart" of the lowlands comes into the record some time near the end of the [[Jubo Dynasty\|Jubo]]. By the time of the [[Chrai Dynasty]], there had arisen a small population of perpetual residents, or at least pilgrims who stayed long enough to be considered a continuous community. [[Obteus Chrai Pul]] regularly spoke of The Heart as the "true" center of his empire, and was the first in a number of [[Jubilators]] who attempted to establish it as a capital. Every attempt however would invariably end with local lords, far from The Heart, seizing greater power for themselves, and the capital having to be moved again.

			[[Maius Xius Arum]] destroyed the stone in a display of Jubilance in 815 TT, and declared the end of lords. Despite this, the location of the heart still held symbolic significance, and actually grew in population through the ensuing years. In 675 TT, the [[Choirarchy]] that ruled the area designated The Heart as a planned capital, and within the span of thirty years the settlement was expanded to five times the prior size. 			The Heart's name comes in equal parts from its role as a life-giver to the Isles of Joy, and the constant stream of people that move through it, entering in and eventually being pumped out. It is possible that such a unique oddity of the place attracted academics and artists in equal measure to find home in the Heart permanently. A constant flow of ideas in and out of the city continues to inspire both the city's artists and its visitors, who go on to spread their knowledge across the islands. The [[Master (Isles of Joy)\|Masters]], great artists which carry on and innovate on the tradition of Joyan art, have found a massive following that extends across the reach of the Isles.

			Throughout the year, and across years, various ceremonies encompassing a variety of [[Joyist]] beliefs take place in the Heart. This extends beyond mere hedonistic expressions of happiness, but may also include somber Woeist ceremonies of contemplation and sadness like the [[Tearful Gathering]], as well as highly contrasting celebrations such as the [[Festival of Anger]] or the [[Days of Ecstasy]]. During such events, Joymen that subscribe to such beliefs gather from around the nation to share a moment together with those identifying with their community, strengthening their relatedness. Even some who may not identify with such emotions fully participate, a practice which is oftentimes given as advice for finding oneself. The various celebrations tend to take place according to the seasons, with sadder ceremonies taking hold during colder months and more energetic ones during the peak of summer.

			The Heart is governed by twelve [[Dirigent]]s who orchestrate local operations to ensure the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who enter the city yearly have a good visit. Collectively named the '''Heart's Choir''', one is elected each of the twelve month by the current population of the Heart, including transient travelers, through a voting ceremony. In practice, the identity of the elected dirigent will highly vary by month depending on the celebrations that are currently taking place. An election held during the [[Weaping]] may produce a despairing, Woeist politician, while one held only a few months later can see an optimistic, happy-go-lucky Joyist taking a seat. Such a set of elections works to ensure a balanced representation of emotions and characters that understand the needs of their followers. The Dirigents do not work jointly as a parliament would, but one of them instead is always taken as having the primary say. Every Dirigent experiences an eleven-month learning period in preparation for their twelfth, which is the same month in which they were elected the previous year. They are given the responsibility of ensuring their given celebrations occur smoothly, in the case of which they are likely to be elected to do the same the following year. The Dirigents may of course help one another, and they do hold some sway, although it is likelier for two Joyist politicians to convince one another of an idea than for a Joyist and a Woeist politician to do the same. The Dirigents command and direct a local bureaucratic structure which is given the task of planning and executing day-to-day operations.
