Preamble

For almost all of recorded history an unending storm raged throughout the archipelagos and landmasses of the Infinite Ocean. The people on each island, isolated from one another by the storm developed distinct cultures unaffected by those of their neighbors. In the year 1 PC the area of storm surrounding the Attu Archipelago calmed allowing for interaction between islands for the first time in recorded history.

What is the Attu Project?

The Attu Project is a community world building project set on a series of formerly isolated islands. Each member is given an island and writes up that island’s history, culture and politics among other things. The members have their islands interact with each other through our various role-play and planning channels in the Discord server.

Get Started

1. Join the Discord server

You need to have an account on our Discord server to participate in the Project. Join with this link: https://links.attuproject.org/invite

2. Pick an island

Ask one of the mods on the Discord server (users with a Doom Committee role) for a map of the archipelago (Ping them as often as you want for the map they love getting pinged). They should send you a map of the archipelago with unclaimed islands circled. Pick whichever one you want and inform the mod of which and they'll reserve it for you. For most islands, all that is set in stone about them is their location, shape and size.

3. Island profile

The next step is to write up an island profile. The island profile is a guide-like document designed to give others a feel for your country and/or island. We recommend not going to in-depth with the document as it is only an introductory piece and details of your island should surface as you interact with others. Nothing you put on your island profile is set in stone and you can change just about any of it later when you add things to the wiki and the lore channels. Once your profile is done send it to one of the mods and they should slot you in.

4. Joining the international community

When your island profile is done you'll gain access to a number of RP channels look in #directory for information on what each of these channels is about. At this point you're also entitled to begin editing on the wiki and adding pages related to your island.

General Rules

Doom Committee

The Doom Committee are the moderators of both the discord server and the project as a whole. Their main functions within the community are to resolve disputes between members, manage the community’s structure and layout and to make sure everyone is having a good time.

Time

Time within Attu is based on a calendar with twelve months and thirty days per month, any date before the “grand calming” uses the suffix TT e.g 7. TT, any date after uses PC e.g 7 PC, a full date would look something like this 15-3 5 PC. Your islands may and probably should have their own separate calendar as they developed in isolation. The storm calmed for different islands at different times which we will tell you about when you select your island. Time in the RP channels moves forward by a year once every two weeks. The month and day that things occur on is decided after the year ends by the Doom Committee.

Technological Limits

  • No planes
  • No internet (Just no World Wide Web but we’re not sure if everyone knows what that means)
  • No cell phone
  • No nuclear weapons capable of destroying an entire island; if you’re going to have nukes, please keep them city destroying at most

Interactions in the RP channels

You’re not allowed to go to war or attack another island without the creator’s consent in being given in #meta-chat. A rule of thumb for interacting with other islands is that the creator of an island has the final say as to what happens on their island. If a dispute arises please contact the Doom Committee they will try and resolve it.

Management Councils

Management Councils may be established to oversee and manage inactive (or NPC) islands. These groups should exist as threads within the #project-forum channel. Membership and participation is not mandatory.

The primary objective of the NPC islands should be to serve as secondary characters within the world when needed as allies and trading partners. They should remain neutral and not be involved in any conflicts.

Minor lore expansions and interpretations are permitted with unanimous agreement (or lack of objections) from the group. Major additions or events require Doom Committee approval.

Order of Priorities

  1. Ensure existing lore is preserved and properly documented on the wiki
  2. Maintain minimal ongoing activity (around two to three events per decade)
  3. Plan and execute large-scale events or expansions
