Hapšâw (Tokšahalnal Hapšâw'l: /hʌ'pʃʌw/; Goyhalnal Hapšâw'l: /a'pʃɜw/) is an island within the northern Brchipelago. The majority of the island is currently controlled by the Kingdom of Hapšâw, but parts are under Deysachin's rule.

History

Pre-Tokšahalna

The modern Hapšâw'l ethnicity is a result of contact between an aboriginal forager population (not to be confused with the Dzeyyal, a modern hunter-gatherer population of the Hapšâw'l Interior) and one or more groups which migrated to the island at an unknown time.

Early Tokšahalna and Kapahapšâw's reign

Tokšâhalna was established in the early 400s TT. It's original name is unknown, Tokšahalna originally being a description.

In 217 TT Hokêkšê became the 11th king of Tokšahalna, under his reign the territory controlled by Tokšâhalna grew to cover most of the island, only to return to a small city state after his death. Goyhalna was also founded during Kapahapšâw's reign, as well as most smaller settlements in the interior.

Population

The islands population is split between a sedentary population of about 30,000 people, most of whom live in the two cities of Tokšahalna and Goyhalna; others live in small settlements scattered across the island, more densely on the eastern side. The remaining population is mostly made up of Fishermen, most of whom do not have a permanent home. The Dzeyyal make up the remaining 4 thousand.

Ethnicity

An overwhelming majority of the islands residents are Hapšâw'l and Dzeyyal. The largest minority group are the Deysachni, mostly made up of Modhes missionaries. Rossans and T'vaqis are also present in small numbers, due to economic ties with Hapšâw.

Geography

Most of the island's western half is covered by a dense forest, the eastern half is less forested, due to being more heavily populated. In the west a low mountain chain runs from the north to the south of the island, making it hard to travel through the center of the island, as such most travels happen by sea or along the coast.

Climate

The island has two seasons:

Hošiĥal (May to September) is characterized by warmer temperatures (24-30ºC in the day, 15-20ºC at night) as well as frequent and heavy rains.

Nêmân (October to April) has colder temperatures (10-15ºC during daytime, -2-10ºC at night). During nêmân rain is less frequent and lighter, however heavy fog is often present. Snowfall may occur at night, but not enough to form a layer on the ground.
