Taaqbal

The Taaqbal are one of the primary ethnic groups of Okrit. They are closely related to their neighbours and historical rivals the Efiyye, and reside primarily in the provinces of Central Waaq, Nairo, Ibok, Binon, East Taaqba, Taaqbal federation and Matsuk.

History

The ancestral Okriti Lowlanders arrived on Okrit around 1800 TT, settling initially on the Omolai and western Onomat before migrating further inland on the Onomat and Waaq and interacting with the various peoples already present. Prior to lowlander settlement Waaq was inhabited by a civilization to the Taaqbal as the Saabeg, who had until then had maintained a thriving society with great scientific, philosophical and technological advancements. However at some point during the early 20th century TT, shortly before Lowlander populations began to arrive, Saabeg society entered a point of intra-cultural conflict as two emergent spiritualist factions, the 'many hands' and 'many faces' began to violently oppose each other. Ancestral lowlanders entering this conflict, while retaining cultural similarities with each other and the shared aspects of the newly encountered culture, were nonetheless absorbed into the bilateral conflict, causing the ethnogenesis of the Taaqbal and Efiyye and the resulting inter-generational rivalry between them. Despite this, both have maintained continued contact and cultural and linguistic ties are nonetheless apparent.
