Pechi's Reign is a theatrical play first performed in 48 TT in Nisi, Brisa. The play is a five-act dramatisation of the Drowning of Commander Jaceri, a turning point in the early stages of the Brisa War. The play has been described by some critics as "Pro-Federation propaganda" and "generally depressing".
Synopsis
Act 1
The play opens with Jomec Iri-Jomec, a rural peasant in the outskirts of Waranje, being drafted to become a soldier of the Wesian army in the new war against Brisa. Jomec Iri-Jomec meets his new crew, and is trained to use a crossbow under Captain Emepri.
Act 2
After months of training, Jomec Iri-Jomec is deployed in the Battle of Aweswe, and is shocked by the brutality of his crew as the Wesian army advances through the city. He pleads Captain Emepri to leave, but is warned that cowardice is punishable by court martial.
Act 3
A year later, Jomec Iri-Jomec is allowed to visit Waranje for twelve days. Upon arriving, he mentally breaks down as soon as he sees the farm where he grew up. When this leave ends, Jomec Iri-Jomec is re-assigned to the west coast under Commander Jaceri.
Act 4
Commander Jaceri plans an attack on Brisa's coastal fortification during the night. As Jomec Iri-Jomec steps onto the boat, thunder rumbles. In a tense scene, Jomec Iri-Jomec feels a foreboding sense of doom, and decides to flee from the battle as the night attack begins. In the following scene, the boat tips over while Commander Jaceri puts on his armour. Jomec Iri-Jomec returns at dawn to find Commander Jaceri dead and drowned in shallow water, a stone's throw from the storm. Jomec Iri-Jomec curses Pechi, and carries Commander Jaceri's body to shore.
Act 5
After Commander Jaceri's body is taken to the Wesian military camp, his right arm is cut off and returned to Najiaf, his hometown. The rest of his body is partially buried in the coastal silt, with his left arm pointing at the sea. The play ends as a private runs into the camp with news that the Wesian army had lost Commander Ajicheri in the Battle of the Cliffs.
