Ofot

The Ofot are one of the primary ethnic groups of Okrit and were the primary ethnic group of the Okso Kingdoms. They hold historical and linguistic ties to the neighboring Amata & reside primarily in the provinces of Dakha Valley, Moklo, North Moklo, East River, & Okso Special Province.

History

The Ofot are a denomination of the Lowland Okritis residing entirely on Onomat. They constitute part of the 'eastern' subsection of the Lowlander ethno-linguistic grouping, along with the Amata. Initially, ancestral Ofot communities lived a pastoral semi-nomadic lifestyle, which would persist up until very recent times, however would adopt urbanization at various points due to the population increases from agricultural, technological and social development. Due to living adjacent to the highlands the ancestral Ofot were first lowlanders to make contact with the Ukubians, and are potentially responsible for introducing the idea of sedentary life to the originally nomadic, ancestral Ukubians. With this, they were the first Lowland peoples to be subjugated by the Ukubians with the expansion of their influence and with the eventual formation of the Ukubian Empire. The ancestors of the Ofot were those of the eastern lowlanders who were treated more favourably by the Ukubians while under their reign, due primarily to sustained contact and social interaction. The Ofot lived in the most well developed areas of the empire and saw the most benefit from Imperial expansion, forming the basis of imperial support amongst the common denominations, often filling administrative roles and facilitating communication between the ethnically lowlander peasantry and the ethnically highlander nobility. For this reason the Ofot most likely played a large role in the fracture and eventual fall of the Ukubian empire.

It was with the collapse of the Ukubian Empire that many rump states would emerge, with the Ofot inheriting the majority of the administrative, infrastructural and technological structures maintained by the empire. This imbued them with a unique cultural tradition that would continue to develop within the period of autonomous rule following the Ukubian collapse. The direct inheritance of Ukubian structures lended the newfound Ofot states legitimacy and prestige, which would lead to a period of stability and development that was unique amongst the lowlanders after the Ukubian Collapse. This period would go on to heavily influence Ofot culture as it developed, being the direct inspiration for the mythological Kingdom of Okso and other folklore that would make up the mythological cycle of the Gimra.

Culture

The Ofot share many of the traits commonly found throughout the Okriti lowlander denominations, however have developed unique beliefs and traditions due to their historical relation to the Ukubian civilization and proximity to contemporary highlander peoples.

Folklore

A noteworthy aspect of Ofot culture is the foklore, which makes up a decent part of their oral and literary history and tradition.
