The Heart

History

Mythic

In the longest versions of the Joyan origin narrative, it is said that following the creation of the Isles, Jubil sailed for 15 days and 15 nights down the coast of the fresh land, in search of a perfect landing spot. On each of the days, a different of his companions, impatient with him, left to settle a patch of coast (The order given is inconsistant, but the twins Desol and Desola are always said to leave first, with loyal Glaemus leaving last), until on the 16th day only his wife Socei remained. On the morning of that 16th day, Jubil believed he had finally seen the perfect patch of coast, smooth and lush. Socei however noticed a single blemish, a large bolder sitting on the edge of the water. Socei noticed the bolder while her husband had been looking away and, despirate to not have to leave him as well as the rest, acheived Jubilance, and willed the stone farther inland. Upon arriving on land, Jubil finally noticed the bolder, and took note of its odd placement on the land. He took it as a sign that he was right to land there, and decreed that it a marker of the origin point of the Joyan People. For this reason, the bolder was historically known as the Soceie Stone, and the surrounding land as Authum (original land).

In versions of the mythos that omit the 16 days, the Soceie stone is said to mark the grave of Socei, Jocul, or both. One account states that it was the stone Jubil used to crush himself, but this was likely a fabrication to drum up tourism.

Nonmythic

The stone was a common pilgrimage site for the Lowland Traveller Complex, though there is no sign of perminant habitation until the 19th century TT. Records attest of the significance of the stone as early as the reign of Kiuda Jubo Ponmecat, and the description of it as being the "heart" of the lowlands comes into the record some time near the end of the Jubo. By the time of the Chrai Dynasty, there had arisen a small population of perpetual residents, or at least pilgrims who stayed long enough to be considered a continuous community. Obteus Chrai Pul regularly spoke of The Heart as the "true" center of his empire, and was the first in a number of Jubilators who attempted to establish it as a capital. Every attempt however would invariably end with local lords, far from The Heart, seizing greater power for themselves, and the capital having to be moved again.

Maius Xius Arum destroyed the stone in a display of Jubilance in 815 TT, and declared the end of lords. Despite this, the location of the heart still held symbolic significance, and actually grew in population through the ensuing years. In 675 TT, the Choirarchy that ruled the area designated The Heart as a planned capital, and within the span of thirty years the settlement was expanded to five times the prior size. The Heart proved a strong foothold, as the Choirarchy survived through centuries of chaos, eventually merging into the modern state with the Wonderous Unity.

Jubilant One

Jubiliant Ones (Joyan: Jubilelau [d͡ʒubilɛlʌ] ,Classical Joyan [d͡ʒubilelau] (lit. "one who is of Jubil", loosely "Jubil-esque") are revered figures in Joyan history and myth, who are said to have accomplished superhuman feats by acheiving a Joyist enlightenment. The term orginates from the first Jubilant One, Jubil, the legendary creator of the Joyist ideology and Isles of Joy.

There is no universally agreed upon list of Jubilant Ones, other than Jubil and Maius Xius Arum. Some individuals however are commonly considered to hold the title.

Keyuayas

Keyuayas is an island in the far Eastern Ocean, not currently known of by the continental world. It is occupied by the 2nd Sarkist State, under the name of Stability.

History

Pre-contact

According to oral legend, Keyuayas was originally inhabited by a people refered to as the Emartuanwentu (roughly "constant people" or "foreverers"), who were tall, dark in skin and bright in eyes, and lived lazily. At some point however, there arrived a second group, the Jyarienwentu (roughly "changing people" or "runarounders"), short and pale, who came in dire straights from beyond the storm wall. It is said that they lived in the storm, and struggled for all of time to find a land without clouds. Upon their arrival, the two peoples came into conflict over how to divide the island, as the Emartuanwentu did not want to give up any of their home, but the Jyarienwentu did not want to return to the hellish storm. Eventually however, some came to see a different idea, for the two groups to not split the land, but to live together as one. Those who took to this combined the names of their peoples and became the Jyartuariem, the first Tisyach. Over the course of years, the Jyartuariem grew larger as those who rejected intermixing fought, and eventually those who opposed the Jyartuariem found they had more in common with one another than with them, and as such formed their own Tisyach, the Emarientuan. These two groups lived in a state of coldness towards one another for generations, but with time the tensions faded as they saw how much they were the same, how little trace remained of their old differences. The two [name for moieties] came together in agreement, and in show of peace they both gave a portion of their respective leaders elders over to form a symbolic third Tisyach, the Imbyate (roughly "elders").
