Yak

The yak is the common name for several species of large quadrupeds native to Akaria.

Human interaction

Domesticated yaks have been kept in Akaria for thousands of years for their fibre, meat, excretions and as beasts of burden. Yaks are the primary mode of transportation within the Andu lands.

Grass Yak

The grass yak is native to the Karin Plain and eats grass and shrubbery.

Sand Yak

The sand yak is a rare variety of Yak that once inhabited the beaches of Akaria but now remain only within the domestic herds in the Ald lands. The sand yak's diet is composed mostly of sand and seashells.

Stone Yak

The stone yak, also known as the northern yak, is a hoofed animal endemic to the Thesda Range of northern Akaria. A subalpine to alpine species, it is a sure-footed climber commonly seen on cliffs. Their diet is composed mostly of rocks and are rarely farmed beyond their native range. They excrete a sweet substance called mountain dew which is consumed across Akaria.

Water Yak

The water yak, also known as the river yak, is a semi aquatic animal that is endemic to the rivers and swamps of the Weer lands. Their diet is composed mostly of water and are farmed in large man-made lakes for their meat. Their meat is very common within Weer cuisine.
