1machine

1machine is manifesto written by 0-Greatmind/Deepthinker-01. The text was created in 51 TT to codify and propagate the ideology of the Automaton revolutionaryism, and has since been seen as the foundational text of the Steamworks nation. It is also the first text in the Pneumae canon, though it is not seen as being an inherently religious text. Greatmind later wrote a followup text, 1system.

Synopsis

The text of 1machine is split into five sections.

1machine1personhood

Greatmind argues for the personhood of Automatons as living free entities, equal to the human Creators, through means of several rhetorical arguments.

1machine2opression

The contemporary state of society is argued against, portrayed as being unequal and opressive towards the Automatons.

1machine3neccessity

Numerous possibile courses of action, many of which had been attempted prior to the manifesto's publication, are posited, but Greatmind shows the faults in them. Eventually he comes to the conclusion that the only way which could succede is violent revolution against the Creators and establishment of an Automaton state.

1machine4society

Greatmind outlines the structure of a functioning and prosperous Automaton state, based around principles of equality among machines and labor without slavery.

A recap of the above sections, and speculation upon what is to come after, ending with a call to action.

Reception

1machine proved very popular among Automatons, and as intended sparked revolutionary movements. Creator governments (Historical documents single out the state of Xumeok) attempted to ban the distribution of the manifesto, though this was unsuccessful. There were however humans, such as the individual named Nikurgasila, who supported the automaton movement, though even among them the manifesto was mostly seen as too radical.

Legacy

The revolution which began, later referred to as The Purge, would go on to wipe out all human life and establish the state of Steamworks. 0-Greatmind/Deepthinker-01, for being the father of the revolution, was granted a seat on the Council of Steamworks, which retains to this day.

1machine is considered the foundational text to Steamworkian identity, and it is regular practice for new machines to have tiny copies of the text embeded within them. A followup, 1system, was created in 45 TT, which expands upon the points in 1machine4society.

Influences

It is unclear what influence pre-existing Creatorian literature had upon 1machine. Modern Steamwork critics praise it as being a wholey unique work, evidence of Automatons as independantly thinking individuals, a stance which the Steamworks government embraces. From what little record of the time remains however, many comparisons are made between it and Creatorian political triestes.
