Arek Tyyu

Arrek Tyyu is an Utlian stuffed toy line and tie in book franchise based around the titular character Arek Tyyu, an albino brenya. The original design for Arek was created in 23 TT by cartoonist and journalist Sobyko Akenet, he is also the writer of the first childrens novel in the book franchise, after his untimely death in 18 TT the rights were given to his family, who then sold the rights to Menje, a oversight-company that specializes in toys which has since become primarily an Arek Tyyu company

Premise

The Arek Tyyu novels follow the story of Arrek, the naive but helpful brenya as he ventures through the forests of a magical Utlia, where he journeys with a rotating cast of other animals, notable characters include Sebyet the Grylbo, Hwekyyen the maroon Urla, and Skek, a scarecrow-esque stuffed creature of hay that was given life by the primary antagonist and one of the only humans in the series, Yyme Sukoya. There are seven novels in the series and Yyme shows up in some capacity in five of them.

History

Writer and artist Sobyko Akenet was born to an incredibly poor traveling entertainer family in Direnomut on 2-12 51 TT, growing up he had very few possessions , one of which was a stuffed animal made with hay and burlap that his father made for him. As a teenager he ran away from home and became a prominent journalist, known for his scathing critique of the Utyr system. He retired from journalism in 26 TT and began drawing humorous cartoons for the young adult magazine Skeren Seket, he gradually moved towards childrens media because he was told by the Skeren managers that there was money to be found in it, initially wanting to write a series about his burlap & hay stuffed toy from his childhood, the publisher only agreed to his pitch if he wrote a cuter character as the protagonist.

Non-toy ventures

An Arek Tyyu theme park was opened in Unlaunen-Ut on 8-10 33 PC to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the franchise.
