A Long Way to Tokšahalna

A Long Way to Tokšahalna is a radio drama that ran on Hapšâw'l Radiyo (previously called Goyhalnal Radiyo) between 59 PC and 62 PC. It is the first Hapšâw'l story to be produced with the intention of being broadcast on the radio. It achieved immense popularity, becoming the second most popular broadcast on Hapšâw'l radiyo, behind the foreign radio block.

Description

Although the Goyhalnal Radiyo had been broadcasting serials practically since it's inception, they were mostly already published books being read aloud. By contrast A Long Way to Tokšahalna was purposely made to account for the limitations and possibilities of a radio broadcast. The serial features separate voice actors for each character, along with a narrator, and makes heavy use of sound effects to further immerse listeners into the story.

The radio drama ran in the morning fiction block at 8:40 every 4 days, two 20 minute episodes would play in a row. Later on, in 61 PC the two episodes from the previous airing would be played in the evening fiction block.

Premise

The story takes place during Kapahapšâw's reign. The protagonist, Yišêgân is a young soldier of Tokšâhalna's army, who left his lover - Filipe in Tokšahalna. While staying in Goyhalna he learns that his lover had been wrongfully accused of burning down a rich man's house and farm, and has been imprisoned, awaiting her execution, which is to happen in 72 days. Yišêgân makes the decision to desert from the army, seeking to return to Tokšahalna and free Filipe. Partway through the story Yišêgân encounters a Fisherman by the name of Gatal'l Higiša, who wishes to move to Tokšahalna, having become tired of the Fishermen lifestyle. Higiša becomes a secondary protagonist of the story, having bonded closely with Yišêgân.
