Are You Sure? (Tieteran: Ĉu Vi Certas?) is a daily comic strip published in Tieteran newspapers. It is written and illustrated by Enrulo Lavokortos, who gained fame as a cartoonist after Are You Sure? was picked up by major publications.
Description
Are You Sure? comics follow the antics of Anĉjo and Jozefo, two curmudgeonly old men who have a childlike friendship. The comic's style of humor is somewhat unconventional; strips often make use of antijokes and metahumor (for example, having the characters encounter Enrulo Lavokortos within the comic). The comic is printed in black and white on standard print newspaper. Strips are typically 2 to 4 panels long.
Enrulo Lavokortos based the characters of Anĉjo and Jozefo off of his two elderly uncles, whom he frequently visited as a child. As Lavokortos grew, he began illustrating conversations between them that he found funny. He was able to feature his cartoons in his town's local newspaper; after an internship at the editing office of a nationwide publication, Lavokortos' superiors approved Are You Sure? comics for national distribution. Afterwards, the comic spread to several other national newspapers, and has since become a staple of Tieteran popular culture.
