Blue Blood Syndrome
More actions
Blue Blood Syndrome is a medical condition often diagnosed in T'vaqi. It refers to a comparative lack of oxygen circulated by red blood cells when compared to unaffected blood, resulting in the discoloration of blood and skin, particularly around the extremities. It is most common in those with pale skin, and is thus rarely found far inland.
Symptoms
Blue Blood Syndrome externally manifests as a discoloration of the skin, which becomes tinged a bluish-purple hue. This is most noticeable in the fingers, toes, and face. Occasional headaches, dizziness, and nausea can accompany Blue Blood Syndrome. This is typically the extent of the condition's symptoms, though blue-blooded individuals are often at higher risk for other, more dangerous diseases. The average lifespan for individuals blue-blooded from birth is 4.3 years shorter than the nationwide average, and the most common cause of death is cerebral hypoxia.
Blue Blood Syndrome is genetic in transmission and is often (but not always) the result of inbreeding. A temporary condition identical to Blue Blood Syndrome can be acquired as a side effect of the overuse of some medications.
Treatment
Genetic Blue Blood Syndrome cannot be cured. Blue Blood Syndrome as the result of prescription abuse can be treated by a gradual weaning of the affecting substance.
