Grylbos
More actions
Grylbos are large seafaring mammals native to the northern coast of the Utlian province of Mountange, they are notable for their long tusks, large whiskers and loud vocalizations.
Discovery
Grylbos were first discovered by Utlians somewhere between 1200 and 1250TT when a group of Frish explorers from Unlaunen ventured north to find unconquered land they could claim for the kingdom. They instead found a group of Merriyem, the first recorded discovery of the group in history. The Merri taught the men how to hunt and use grylbos for human use. These uses ranged everything from clothes to food, the men killed 3 of the beasts and took them back to Unlaunen to show their discoveries to the king.
Anatomy
Grylbos have large bodies, roughly the length of 1.5 Utlian men, with a weight of 5 men. They have large flippers for traversing in land and sea. Their vocal cords are enlarged for mating purposes. They are most well known for their tusks, which stretch far past their mouth
Ecology

Range
Grylbos hunt in the icy shores of Mountange but nest inland, where they raise children and eventually teach them how to swim. They never venture far from the coast or nest, even in adulthood.
Diet
Grylbos are carnivorous, only eating fish. They do not have competition as they are the north shore's only fish-eating mammal.
Culture
The Merriyem people of Mountange relied on the grylbos for centuries, using them for everything they could until the frish kingdom began to expand and incorporate Merri land into their own and assimilate them.
The grylbo is a state symbol of Mountange and has a commemorative coin.
