Rossan Moschettieri

From Attu Project

The Rossan Moschettieri were an armed police force that existed in the Republic of La Rossa in the years prior to La Denunzia. Formed in the year 253 TT by Dux Raffaello Barozzo di Tolia, the small unit of men armed with musket was originally envisaged as the Dux's personal guard. In the wake of the rise of automated production several decades later, the greater production of firearms saw the redefining of corps into a national police in service of the Dux and the island's government. Although the firearms they used changed and developed since their inception, their name bore their original weaponry until their end.

The overthrow of the Dux during La Denunzia led to the dismantlement and redefinition of many old institutions. With their name changed to the Rossan police force by Dux Falcone, and their reach drastically curtailed by Ducissa DeGaio, the force is regarded to have met its end in the two decades after the beginning of the post-revolutionary period. As La Rossa never encountered foreign nations before the Second Calming, no major distinction was made between military forces and local policing, with the two functioning as the same underneath the banner of the Moschettieri, following an army-like hierarchy with powerful weaponry while enforcing strictly domestic matters. The years after the Calming saw the separation between the two, and the Rossan Armed Forces were established at the advice of the Entrance Commission, with its domain focused on protection against threats outside the island's territory. Because of this, the Rossan Moschettieri are said to have two successor organizations, divided between internal and external matters.
