Sharpened Ched

Sharpened Ched is a type of Joyan hard cheese. Traditionally it is presented in long cylindrical wheels, usually the diameter of a human hand. Typically not consumed on its own, it is primarily meant to be grated over other foods using a cheese sharpener, shaving off pieces and giving the ched a sharp, conical appearance. Once the ched is no longer able to be sharpened (i.e., it is perfectly conical), it tends to no longer be grated and is instead eaten directly in bites, an experience that tends to be savored due to the cheese's concentrated piquant flavor. Cones are often dipped into jams as they are eaten, in order to prevent dehydration and give the cheese a more diverse taste. Some Joyans choose to store their ched cones for special occasions, and treating one's guests to a cone of ched is seen as a sign of great politeness.
