Southern Sea

The Southern Sea is a region of water south of the Attu Archipelago. Due to its importance in trade between east and west, it is also sometimes referred to as the Southern Passage. It lies between the Caseic Archipelago and Wälstanland. Originally discovered by Harakar Oken, it was assumed to be an expansive ocean body similar to the Eastern Ocean. However, as most of its range remained Stormswept, this was not possible to definitively prove. The Calming of Wälstanland in 60 PC put a dent into the hypothesis, and it is currently believed that other islands reside within what was formerly believed to be the Southern Ocean. The previously discovered sea has been renamed to reflect its true size.

Discovery

Living King, Harakar Oken's Giga-Yacht got swept south into the Southern Ocean on 10-6 7 PC, cutting off contact between Harakar and the known world. During their time in the Southern Ocean, the Giga-Yacht was attacked by a southern squid, which Harakar befriended.

Bordering Seas

The Pechi Sea was once believed to be a marginal sea of the Southern Ocean, enclosed between Casea and the Storm. This ultimately did not turn out to be the case, and the Pechi Sea is currently defined as merely a bordering sea. It is bounded on the other side by the Gonue Sea, which doesn't exist.

Shuffling Theory

The Shuffling Theory is a conspiracy theory which claims that there once did exist a Southern Ocean, during the times of Harakar Oken. However, at some point prior to the Calming of Wälstanland, the sea and its landmasses rearranged to create a tightly bound archipelago and remove the Southern Ocean from existence. Conspiracists claim that the other islands will also never calm, and that they were merely placed there by malign forces to prevent the Southern Ocean from becoming a reality.
