The Rift

From Attu Project

The Rift are a decentralized terror group made up of Gargans who are unhappy with the Seait High Council's decision to remain isolated and hidden following the discovery of non-Seaitean life in 30 PC.

The group formed in 49 PC, 10 years after the Seait High Council fully quashed any plans to contact the rest of Attu. While intially small and primarily focused on vocal advocacy for communication with the other peoples of Attu, group membership petered out over frustrations and hopelessness that their missions would ever be completed. The organization went essentially dormant for about 30 years with no recorded members or activities.

In 82 PC, the Rift resurfaced in small cohorts through both Noctop and T'arvare, but without any clear centralized leadership or power hierarchy. Their mission remained about the same, with now elder Gargans who had become completely disillusioned by the Seait High Council's total inaction. In the first 2 years of their re-emergence, their actions of particular note were acts of large scale vandalism of Seait High Council buildings and targeted harassment of pro-isolationist representatives (of both Sularians and Gargans). However, in 84 PC, a small troop of Rift militants, most with "customized anatomy suited for specialized missions," raided a Noctop storehouse of the crystals used to create Gargans and generate power for Seaiteans. During the course of the investigation into the theft by the Noctop Security Forces (NSF), a Rift safe house was raided and unstable crystal charges were discovered. Unfortunately, before the NSF could report their findings, the main parliamentary office for the Seait High Council was damaged by similar homemade crystalline explosives. The attack caused no injuries, as planned by the masterminds of the bombing, and the Rift immediately claimed responsibility, threatening more "action" if the Seait High Council continued to "hoard Gargan technology" while the people of Seaitean "hid in their forests and caves like small game."
