Toq "Toha" Hariq was a T'vaqi Viti League track athlete.
Early life
Toq Hariq was born in the city of Hoshtona in 25 PC. He was an avid runner from a young age, frequently participating in local endurance races. He gained notoriety at the age of 16 for running around the entire perimeter of Lake Sky. He accomplished this feat only a day before his Cognitive Capacity Exam, which he would later claim negatively affected his performance on the test.
Track career
Hariq became an official Viti League track athlete in 40 PC at the age of 20. He specialized in middle-endurance races, specifically the pasqov and hoshav. He frequently qualified for the final rounds of championships he participated in. His aggressive, metronomic pacing strategy earned him the nickname Toha, both an abbreviation of his full name and the T'vaqi word for storm.
In 57 PC at the age of 31, Hariq competed in the track event at the Second Attu Games, winning the competition. His success generated national pride for T'vaqi, but this quickly turned to anger after he publicly admitted to the use of performance-enhancing substances during the event. As there was no formal precedent for his actions, Hariq received an informal eight-year ban from competing in domestic and international events. In addition, he served six months in prison upon return to T’vaqi due to the consumption of non-medicinal drugs. During his competition ban, Hariq continued to train rigorously, and claimed to set would-be national records in the process. However, since Hariq was barred from official distance measurements during this time, these claims were impossible to substantiate.
In 66 PC, Hariq took part in his first Viti League championship in nearly a decade. He qualified for the finals but ultimately placed fifth out of five. Many spectators actively booed him as he crossed the finish line. Aged 40, the effects of aging had taken their toll on his physical fitness; Toq would never once win a track event domestically or internationally after his ban.
Death
Toq Hariq was found dead at 51 in 77 PC, in an apparent suicide by Opulilum overdose.
