Katopo Naka

Katopo Naka is an Okriti politician and mystic, serving as governor of Okso province before being raised to the position of Chairman of the Dakma under the presidency of Aakar Byenama.

Background

Naka's personal life is often shrouded in conjecture due his to many contradictory and unconfirmable statements and often hostile and bizarre behavior towards the press.

When initially asked about his background on his initial campaign for the governorship of Okso in 29 PC, Naka alleged that he was 180 years old, and was born miraculously as the son of a blind witch within a spring on Mount Batowari, sometimes claiming to have been born as a fully clothed adult. Shortly before his eventual election to the governorship, contact was made with Naka's birth-mother Topo Merewe, who confirmed that while he was born in a spring on Mount Batowari, he was in fact born in 6 TT, making him only 35 at the time. She also attested that she was not a witch and had only practiced traditional medicines, however did develop eye issues shortly before his birth. He was also confirmed to most likely have a father, as Merewe would often sleep with male patients as part of traditional Ofot medicine. While this was later corroborated by Naka, both alleged that he was actually the reincarnation of Datawe Temitwalon, the last known member of the Darawe dynasty of Okso, whom had died in 169 TT of unknown causes. Merewe would later die from accidental poisoning, having overdosed on a herb used in treating joint pains, making Naka's later claims difficult to disprove.

Naka's early childhood has the most confirmed attestations of his life due to press interviews with his mother and early neighbours, though they would be variously suppressed and disputed and are also likely doubtful due to the prestige associated with Naka. What is well known is that Naka was raised in the city of Dakafar by his mother, who taught him traditional medicine and would employ him to gather materials in the wilderness for her practice. The time from the years of 0 to 3 PC are where the facts of his life become much harder to confirm. Naka told a multitude of stories regarding his childhood on his radio show a night with Naka and within his various books and articles. He has claimed to have experienced a multitude of visions, to have lived with Amarte Highlanders, to have been possessed and to have exorcised a possession, to have rediscovered extinct species and to have travelled to the moon.

Medicine and Radio show

From 13 to 14 PC Naka is confirmed to have been practicing traditional Ofot medicine in the city of Dakafar when he gained the honorific of Topo and officially entered the greater spiritual and medicinal community. He was one of the first Topos to integrate and promote the use of modern medicine into his practices alongside traditional medicine, which saw him rise to great prominence during the proliferation of purple fever where vaccines and antihistamines proved vital to treating the eastern-borne disease. By 19 PC Naka became an incredibly renowned practitioner within multiple cities of the eastern Onomat and was officially endorsed by forces controlled by Aakar Orit, who cooperated with him in promoting their rule through medicine provision and media proliferation. It was Orit's forces who provided Naka with access to radio broadcasting equipment as part of their efforts to spread and utilise modern technology to secure control over occupied territories. Since Naka's segments were broadcast along the entirety of Okrit with Aakarist occupation his influence grow immensely as his personality and appeal to traditional tradition Okriti values saw immense popularity. It was time around this period from PC that Naka first became associated with Aakar Byenama.

With his growth in popularity, he was given a full programme slot on government airwaves under the title a Night with Naka where he would discuss medicine and spirituality, taking in audience letters and later calls. The programme was broadcast weekly from 21 to 29 PC but limited to fewer and fewer broadcasts from 30 PC onwards due to his political career. While Naka's previous radio propaganda segments had been overseen heavily by the government and military, he was given near complete control over the Night with Naka time slot, which allowed him to spread his increasingly unorthodox and often absurd beliefs, practices and personal claims. The show proved instrumental in his campaign to become governor of the special province of Okso and would cement his influence and connection with the Okriti public during his tenure in his offices.
