Caji III was the twelfth and thirteenth[1] monarch of the Cajia Kingdom, and was one of the Umbri su afrec during the Caseic Weatherplague.

12th Ruler of Cajia

Caji III became the ruler of Cajia in 582 TT, following decades of conflict between the four main dynasties of Cajia, namely the Caje, Projec, Jaca, and Crec dynasties. Caji III was from the Jaca dynasty, being the son of Jaca II sa Jaca, who had deposed Jaca III sa Caje in 599 TT.

Caji III's coronation was not without controversy, as Jaca IV sa Caje claimed to be the rightful monarch. On seven separate occasions in 581 TT, Jaca IV sent assassins for to assassinate Caji III, but none of the assassination attempts were successful.

Umbri su afrec

In 578 TT, as the Caseic Weatherplague began, Caji III saw that the chaos of four different dynasties fighting over the throne would lead to the fall of the kingdom. Thus, he established the Umbri su afrec, a temporary measure where for the duration of the Weatherplague, the four current leaders of each dynasty (Jaca IV, Atu IV, Caji III, and Crec I) would all act as co-rulers of the Cajia Kingdom. They each had the title Umbri, meaning "co-leader".

The umbri su afrec were successful in that they were able to put their differences aside and focus on their response to the Weatherplague crisis, but the Weatherplague still devastated the Cajia Kingdom. Floods and storms lead to crop failures; thinner air lead to asphyxiation. In 572 TT, Jaca IV died by asphyxiation, but the Umbri su afrec chose to keep that secret as they feared revealing it would lead to a loss of morale. In 568 TT, Crec I died, and the Umbri su afrec once again kept death secret to maintain morale.

Throughout the 560s TT, the Cajia Kingdom saw a rise in slave revolts, as farmers would commonly let their slaves die while trading food to the cities for exorbitant gain. On 7-9 559 TT, the Umbri su afrec abolished slavery in the Cajia Kingdom. Probably coincidentally, the Weatherplague began to end on the same day, with storms beginning to retreat back to the sea. Weeks later, the Umbri su afrec dissolved, with Caji III being appointed as the ruler of Cajia, and Chec II being set as his successor.

13th Ruler of Cajia

About a year after the end of the Weatherplague, Caji III declared that the end of slavery marked the beginning of a new era, and created the Caseic Calendar.

Caji III died on 8-7 556 TT (Caseic Calendar: 2-Y-23).
