Operation Vidar's Folly was a military operation undertaken by the Akaria-Utlia alliance between 9-12 2 PC and 7-3 4 PC in the Nation of Niueyjar. The operation was executed as an attempt remove Vidar Astridson from power in Niueyjar.

Background

On 15-5 2 PC during the Niueyjar Civil War the Niueyjar Royalists led by Vidar Astridson detained a group of Utlian sailors in an attempt to hide the civil war from the outside world triggering the Utlian Sailor Crisis. The leaders of the Akaria-Utlia alliance Harakar Oken and Yyme Braia elected to rescue the sailors through Operation Crab Rescue which successfully extracted the sailors on 20-5 2 PC.

During the course of the operation an Akaria-Utlia alliance ship travelled through a reef off the coast of Niueyjar. Vidar, who considered reefs to be the sacred home of the Cravik threatened to kill the family of whoever was responsible for the incursion. Threats from Astridson continued following the operation. Both Harakar Oken and Yyme Braia decided that in order to keep their nations safe they needed to get Vidar out of power. The Akaria-Utlia alliance began arming the Niueyjar Loyalists on 9-12 2 PC.

Operation

Several precautions were put in place to protect the interests of the Akaria-Utlia alliance. To the weapons shipments from harm Harakar enlisted the use of the Akarian Navy to defend the Akarian Trade Fleet ships delivering the weapons. No up to date equipment was issued with the most recent fire arm sent over being outdated by twenty-four years. Among the weapons sent to the loyalists were two dozen Saeskar Class Missiles which had been rigged to explode if tampered with.

The operation began on 9-12 2 PC, with all shipments being delivered to Norden and distributed by the Loyalists from there.

On 7-3 4 PC Vidar Astridson was killed by an Akarian made missle fired by members of Clan Helgen. The next day the the Akaria-Utlia alliance announced the operation's success and suspended shipments to Norden (despite Norden being under Royalist control by this point).

Analysis and aftermath

Despite the technological superiority of the Akarian weapons the Loyalists were unable to win the civil war, being defeated only eight days after the death of Vidar. A lack of training in how to effectively use the weapons in combat scenarios greatly contributed to this loss. The use of the foreign aid negatively impacted the Loyalists cause among the Niueyjara and may have led to an inability to sway others to join them.

The death of Vidar led to Heidr Gullveigdaughter taking over as Niueyjar's international representative.
