No-brain (subculture)

The No-brain movement is a T'vaqi youth subculture that gained popularity around 76 PC. In T'vaqi, the subculture is referred to as Vamhan, and its followers as Vamhani.

Origins

The No-brain subculture was born out of anti-war resistance among youth during the Tricade War, aimed at the government of T'vaqi itself. No-brains reject the Cognitive Capacity Scale, though they have a societal reputation for scoring poorly on the Exam. No-brains share a common contempt for the generally poor treatment of mine laborers and factory workers nationwide; the movement is most popular in Qopi and Thono. The subculture's views on labor are similar to those of the Modhesian Army, though No-brains are vocally anti-Modhes.

The popularity of the No-brain movement is partly attributed to the rise of No-brain music artists in the mid-70s PC, whose songs attracted mass youth attention. The most influential of these is Cranium, a solo performer and comedian famous for his song I'm Fucking Qoeul-bo (So Ha-Q'ropo-Vata). The growth of the No-brain movement is associated with a sharp increase in juvenile delinquency nationwide. In 76 PC, Grand Magister Havo T'l declared that the Substance Distribution Monitoring Agency would begin detaining and questioning self-identified No-brains at will.

Characteristics

The archetypal No-brain is hypermasculine and possesses an inclination towards substance abuse, petty theft, and violent crime. Most No-brains are male; female No-brains are sometimes derogatorily called Vasamhani. No-brains often romanticize the Qoeul-bo Hrnad, and emulate their actions. This is coupled with xenophobia and racism towards Modhes individuals. Several instances of anti-Modhes violence can be attributed to No-brains. No-brains typically do not seek employment; many earn income from illegal substance distribution or other forms of crime. Despite their antisocial nature, members of the subculture are usually generous towards other No-brains. Large networks of No-brains can create micro-economies where money is traded freely. It is not uncommon for No-brains to buy out an entire apartment building or bunker chain with amassed funds, creating a communal No-brain enclave.

Music

The No-brain movement is distinctly associated with the music genre of the same name. No-brain music is characterized by the deliberate use of high-pitched, continuous frequencies intended to frustrate and cloud the mind of the listener. Another common element of No-brain music is a rapidly fluctuating or otherwise non-constant percussion tempo. Lyrics to No-brain songs are usually simple repeated phrases, if lyrics are present at all.

Fashion

No-brain fashion is opposed to typical T'vaqi robes worn by most of the populace. No-brains tend to wear low-cut garments, often hand-stitched or assembled from multiple pieces of clothing. It is a common hallmark of No-brain fashion for any brand or company logos to be removed from clothing. This is usually done in a fashion which draws attention to the removed logo, such as scratching it out with bright ink. No-brains often deliberately grow out their hair on all sides, rarely wearing hats or other head coverings.
