The SunRay is a switch-activated lamp that emits light intended to emulate natural sunlight. The product is manufactured and sold by the T'vaqi appliance corporation Hotapasa.
Design and use

With the exception of certain inland cities such as Ishiq, most areas of T'vaqi rarely experienced direct sunlight for longer than 30 minutes per day prior to theCalming. The SunRay was therefore invented in 10 TT to simulate a ray of direct sunlight, meant for indoor use. Following its initial launch, the SunRay became wildly successful; this led to the creation of a portable, battery-charged version of the product, the MiniRay, which was developed and released in 5 TT.
A typical SunRay lamp must be plugged in to an outlet via cable to function; the light can then be activated or deactivated by pressing a switch on the base of the lamp. The lamp consists of a large bulb within a hollow metal hemisphere, which is connected to the base of the lamp via three swivel joints. The swivel joints present on the lamp allow it a wide range of motion. The portable MiniRay is composed of a smaller bulb within a short metal cylinder, and can be turned on and off using a button on the bottom of the cylinder. The light emitted by a SunRay lamp is warm and saturated with ultraviolet radiation; in several cases, this has caused (sometimes severe) sunburns.
After the nation's Calming in 30 PC, SunRay sales dropped severely, causing Hotapasa to lose approximately 58% of its investment value; the company has not since recovered. While still occasionally used for lighting purposes, the SunRay has been rendered largely obsolete.
