Hotapasa is a T'vaqi appliance corporation.
History
"Hotapasa" is a portmanteau of hota ("easy") and apasa ("machine"). The company was established in 10 TT after its founder, Tama Ovoqo, invented the SunRay lamp, which became the company's flagship product. The SunRay was a massive success nationwide, since most of T'vaqi received very little direct sunlight. Hotapasa maintained a monopoly on the SunRay by threatening to bankrupt companies attempting to sell adjacent products (most notably Toha Electronics). Despite the unilateral success of the SunRay, Hotapasa would begin to diversify in 1 PC and sell other home appliances. Post-Calming, the SunRay was rendered largely obsolete, and Hotapasa lost over 58% of its investment value. The company survived, but never recovered from the economic blow. It relies on the sales of non-SunRay appliances for profit.
Hotapasa has been run by the Ovoqo family for its entire lifespan. In 68 PC, Soqotama Ovoqo, the grandson of Tama Ovoqo, unknowingly consented to be interviewed for a documentary called Hotapasa: The Joke of the Industry, which he tried to remove from broadcast once he found out. This only succeeded in drawing more attention to the film.
Products
Hotapasa manufactures and sells various lightweight home appliances, including portable couches and heat dryers. The company still maintains its hold over the SunRay lamp, and periodically warns other appliance companies not to steal the design. These statements are generally not taken seriously, since no other company has deemed the SunRay worth producing post-Calming.
