The Dvergur are a species of people from Niueyjar.
Clan Kalifen
In ancient Niueyjar many of the human clans were stuck in a constant state of war. The period came to an end when the Dvergur sent out a small number of their elder mages to put an end to the ceaseless wars of the clans. The subjugation was a bloody and brutal affair but eventually, the might of the Dvergur's magic won out and they crowned one of their own as Emperor and founded Clan Kalifen, they ruled the island unopposed up until shortly after the Grand Calming.
On 14-3 1 PC, the Reformers, believing that the Dvergur blood in the royal family was diluted enough that they had a chance at self-rule the Reformers assassinated Emperor Olaf Fredradaughter and their family leaving the throne empty and with no clear line of succession. The Traditionalists, under the leadership of Vidar Astridson of Clan Erak, came to the aid of Clan Kalifen. Vidar was killed by Akarian forces aiding Clan Kalifen on 7-3 4 PC. Following his death a young Dvergur, named Heidr Gullveigdaughter, whom he had planned to place on the throne finished off the remaining rebels with a small faction of her people who had chosen to come with her to the surface. She was shortly after crowned Empress Heidr Gullveigdaughter of Clan Kalifen.
Legends
It is said that the Dvergur who reside in the tunnels beneath Niueyjar reside in long vertical shafts filled with books. It is also said that these "libraries" contain the wisdom of ages past.
On 8-6 5 PC the Nation of Niueyjar launched an expedition in search of these libraries.
