Mercantilism

From Attu Project

Mercantilism (Ros. Mercantilismo) is an economic orientation that emphasizes interventionism and industrial policy in an effort to create economic growth through exports. Employed by Dux Leo Minestrici di Mineria following the Rossan Opening, the approach utilized targeted tariffs and generous subsidies to select industries in order to stimulate production and create an export-driven economy built on afforable sales of mass-produced goods to other nations. Unlike Laborist forms of interventionism, mercantilism did not focus on regulating businesses in efforts to restrain the power of wealth and employers, but rather focused on building up the economy by moving money into promising sectors within the confines of a market economy.

This cooperation between businesses and state has, in practice, led to the resurgence of the Six Families' role in Rossan public life, empowering them through government contracts, tax breaks and subsidies. Following Vincenzo Barozzo's attempt to establish a dictatorship, a sharp turn against the Families has led to a large-scale shift towards attempting to break their power of the economy again. Today, mercantilism is a minor force, and even on the conservative spectrum of governance, it has mostly been replaced by a move towards exemptionism, which emphasizes a much smaller role of government in propping up businesses.
