Symor

Symor was an official in the Serene Parliament of Spyron. He was known for negotiating a deal between the Serene Union of Spyron and the Steamworks which Emperor Spyron II immediately cancelled.
Serene Parliament
Symor was never technically elected to the Serene Parliament, starting his political career as the parliament's janitor. He would often be present at parliamentary proceedings, making snide remarks among the back benches. After a redistricting of parliament, there were fewer parliamentarians than before, and as such, some extra seats. Symor printed his own nametag and connected it to a fictional constituency. Because he was at the back, nobody noticed the presence of his parliamentary seat until several months later. Because it would be a bureaucratic nightmare to remove all of his votes from the past year of parliamentary decisions, the Serene Parliament decided to keep his seat as a special constituency, but give his votes a weight of zero.
Steamworks deal
The exact date of the deal is not known, but is believed to have been in the 40s PC. Symor visited the City of Gears and bought an unknown quantity of machinery. On the way back, Symor's ship sank, and the machinery was damaged. All that Symor had left after being rescued at sea was the printed proposed deal between Spyron and the Steamworks for trade of machinery.
Symor returned to the Serene Union, and happened to be scheduled for lunch with the emperor, where he initially intended to present the deal. Knowing the machinery had fell to the depths of the sea, Symor decided to present a disassembled car as though it was a machine from the Steamworks. To obscure the fact that it is a disassembled car, he hid it in his kitchen.
Meeting with Spyron II
Emperor Spyron II arrived at Symor's residence, despite Symor's use of misleading directions to buy time. Symor greeted the emperor, emphasising that the deal would be promoted at an "unforgettable luncheon". The emperor was reportedly unimpressed.
Heading into the kitchen, Symor saw that the disassembled car had blocked access to the oven, starting a fire. He intended to sneak out through the kitchen window to obtain a fire extinguisher, but was interrupted by the emperor, who questions him as to why there is smoke coming from the oven. Symor reportedly insisted that his escape through the window was isometric exercise and that the smoke was in fact steam. He then spent several minutes on the outside of the building looking for a fire extinguisher but being unable to do so. The meal burnt, he headed to a nearby restaurant for fast food in order to disguise it as his own cooking.
The emperor reportedly sat in Symor's dining room for twenty minutes. Symor then returned through the kitchen door with restaurant food disguised as his own cooking. They then ate the food. The emperor could immediately tell that the food was from a restaurant, but Symor insisted that the food was his own cooking with Steamworks technology. The emperor questioned how the food could be the result of Steamworks technology when Automatons do not eat. Unable to answer this question, Symor went into the kitchen, where the fire was spreading.
The emperor is said to have noticed the flames and yelled theo-implicatively about them. Symor reportedly insisted that the flames were the result of an astronomical phenomena. The emperor questioned the likelihood of astronomical phenomena at the present time of year, the present time of day, the location of the residence on the island, and the phenomena being localised entirely within the kitchen. Symor maintained the line that astronomical phenomena were present in the kitchen, but denied the emperor entry.
The emperor reportedly remarked that Symor was an odd fellow but steams a good work upon leaving Symor's residence. The emperor immediately cancelled the deal upon returning to his palace.
Death
Symor died in 62 PC, as a result of toxic fume inhalation, unrelated to any Steamworks technology.
