History
Before the Great War
It has been said that the Tanospy and the Clanmen will always be at war. Both say that the other are invaders from a lost sunken land that they destroyed by their own deeds, though the Roja claim them both to be invaders, with themselves as the true natives. The Clanmen occupy a larger land area but the Tanospy own the most fertile lands. A Tanospy saying is that “the Clanmen fight with their body, but the Tanospy fight with their minds'', and even the most boastful Clanman will agree with them somewhat, for most of the technological improvements have come from the lowlands. For every great breakthrough from the south, however, there has been a legendary warrior from the north, whose victories in battle would never be forgotten, Times of peace have never lasted long but full on warfare is surprisingly rare, with border skirmishes and raids being far more common. Once in a lifetime however, and when one side believes that they have the advantage, a full on war between the Clanmen and the Tanospy begins and mass death, destruction, and ruin comes to everyone who unlucky enough to be near the battle lines.
Build-up to The Great War
There have been many times where both the Tanospy and the Clanmen were nearly pushed into the sea but, due to the hostile population, control didn’t last long. That was until the Lovi invented the steam engine and began industrialising. They shared it with the other Tanospy and this led to the next war. the Clanmen were utterly devastated, with the great clan of Wegoli losing the northern lowlands to the newly founded Kingdom of Welo and the Republic of the Valley. In the turmoil caused by the most powerful clan losing its homeland, the previously unknown Rondan Clan, led by Haruki I, led a conquest against them and captured their capital, the city of Drakon. He began a “great unification of all the clans of Alongi” but unlike all the previous times clanmen tried to unify, Haruki began a new duel clan system where the Rondan controlled the actions of the army and the other clans ran nearly everything else. With that, Haruki I was actually able to unite all clans of Alongi, but he didn’t have any immediate plans for war against the Tanospy, instead focusing on building up the strength of the clans and sabotaging the Kingdom of Welo. Haruki began a 30 year effort of building where all the clans were meant to modernise to be as advanced as the south, but in an accident (though some theorize otherwise) the Haruki I died in a sandworm attack and his son Haruki II was able to take control of the Rondan clan, and thus all armies of the clanmen, by promising immediate war with the Tanospy and finally uniting the whole of Alongi under a single banner, “Great Rondanska” as he called it.
The Great War
The first act of Haruki II was the invasion of Welo, and to the surprise of the clans the battle was easy, but that was because the Tanospy knew from his boasting about his plans and were making a massive defensive line on the borders of Lovi, Halma, and Gomlexica. Their war plan hinged upon the new discovery of mustard gas. They filled the artillery shells of the republic of the valley with the gas (without their knowledge) to kill most of the Clanmen’s army and hopeful the Haruki II as well.
When that date came, the plan seemed to work, with most of the army and almost all the leaders, successors, and other such notable figures dying, but the brother of Haruki, Ganrosliv, who dubbed himself “Haruki III” took control of the Great clans, apart from the Cemho’ki, who were hit the hardest and didn’t want more of their people to die. This “act of betrayal” angered Haruki III, who said that “the Cemho’ki are no better than the scum of Tanospy”. With this, the clan of Cemho’ki sided with the Tanospy, causing the frontlines of a war that would last for 5 gruelling years.
With the technological advantage of the south and the lack of industry from the stunted development plan, the Rondan and the other clans needed new leaders from outside the normal clanleaders, including Stov Welecin who was from the border regions, but he is seen as one of the best champions in clan history, even rivaling Haruki I. Under his command he was able to capture and reverse engineer many of the technologies of the Tanospy and recapture the lost ground, bringing both sides to equal footing.
With this status quo the war became a daily massacre, with the Rondan using the gas that they once decried. The people of the clan hated this order but lacked the unity to rebel and feared the fates if the Tanospy were able to win the war, and as such they went along with the orders of Haruki “the mad”.
Past the first year of the war the clanmen were able to gain the offensive, but every battle was a hard fought victory. With only after 5 years of constant warfare the Rondan where able to gain momentum, but a famine ensued from the amount of farmers sent to the front lines.
With most of the Republic of the Valley, half of the Halma Commissariat, and the Gomlexica Republic encircled by land, Haruki III mobilized his personal guard to capture the city of Gomlex, the heart of the Tanospy, for himself. The siege was originally under the command of Welecin, whose men had dubbed “the Brave'', who too followed along with Haruki to keep his life. Haruki attempted to command, but due to the failures Welecin became his military “advisor”, who was able to do his job again but all orders were under the name of Haruki.
After 3 months Gomlex was near Clan control and Haruki left the Rondan capital and left the Greater clan of Rondan under the control of his brother Lidaqek. Making his way there he took control of the war planning, and ordered that he and his guard would capture the city's parliament and declare Greater Rondanska. Due to the Tanospy’s drained fighting power they were defeated and the sprented dome was to be captured. When the relayer from Haruki’s men reached Welecin, he was meant to order the news to be spread but instead he ordered the army that was still loyal to him to fire at the Great Dome, an order which they proudly followed, killing Haruki and shattering his men.
Welecin, Now calling himself Spyron, then sent the relayer back into the city to find any remaining government of Gomlex, and they did as the People's Trustee was still alive and ordering Tanospy commands. They were told to meet Spyron at the ruins of the Dome, risking it being a trap. He went anyway and began to talk to Spyron.
Unification

This message was sent instead of the expected message of the fall of Gomlex, and the news of the death of Haruki for the soldiers of the other fronts saw it as a reason for celebrate and began to abandon their posts on mass, with the news spreading from the clan soldiers to Tanospy soldiers, who were weary but also hopeful for the end of the horrible war and some of the army sided with the new Spyron government.
When the announcement got to the Tanospy nations they mostly saw this as a way to control the clanlands or at least give them some time to rebuild. The clanland citizens were shocked but embraced Spyron, but to the Clan elite it was their worst nightmare. With the main sources of their legitimacy gone they quickly devolved into chaos, as many claimants came trying to push themselves to power, with 7 “Haruki IV”s and 12 other major claimants completely shattering the unity of the clanlands. With the most powerful clansman and most Tanospy factions siding with the Spyron government, the Roja Communities promised to aid the new government if they promised to protect them and allowed them in the reconstruction effort (and keep some of the assets).

Famine
In the time before the Emperor took control, the government led by the Great Dome Pact did not want to declare a rationing, dragging their feet on any acts that did not fit their vision. By the time they finally did, the first thing after it was declared was that the EYB left the governing coalition, taking the Lidaqek Coalition with them, causing a hung parliament, but the GDP didn’t leave the first speaker role due to Spyron not wanting to interfere with civilian politics, but due to the increasing severity of the famine and the political deadlock Emperor Spyron declared that he now had Emergency Powers and that the civil government now have to pass through him and that he didn’t need to pass through parliament, and also the GDP party was no longer the first speaker.
Calming
On 16-1 9 PC, the 2nd Calming occured, coincidencally on the same day that the price of a hen's egg became 2 eggs per ration point, due to the success of the Chickens at Home Program. The Serene Merchant Navy mobilised on 20-1 9 PC and set off in search of other nations. The anouncement of the mobilisation was heard by the nations of the Attu Archipelago. On 22-1 9 PC, Living King, Harakar Oken ordered a single ship of the Akarian Scouting Force to be diverted to find the Serene Merchant Navy. The next day the YDF sent the YDFDFNSS Lizard of Ana north with the same goal. Two days after that the Confederated Nations of Niueyjar Navy (CNNN) deployed their own ship northwards.
The Lizard of Ana made contact with the Serene Merchant Navy on 8-2 9 PC. The radio meeting between them was intercepted and observed by the CNN. During the meeting, an in-person meeting was aranged on an island off the coast of Spyron. Yun Yan'il and Spyron would meet on 10-3, and another meeting would occur between Spyron and Harakar later that month, following which Malanine Oken became the Akarian ambassador to Spyron. Spyron officially joined the IgRS on 20-5 9 PC.
On 24-2, Emperor Spyron gave power back to the Serene Parliament.
Construction of the Drakon University began again on 25-6 9 PC.
There were protests on 8-8 9 PC in Roja communities over increase in the price of Yum-Zum chocolate bars.
On 30-8 9 PC A law is passed in Spyron protecting the Glomfish.
In Bago, a pesticide factory exploded on 25-7 11 PC.
The Roja Community decriminalized homosexuality on 21-9 11 PC.
Kelelemi Civil War
The Halma Commissariat got involved in the Kelelemi Civil War in 10 PC after making a deal for land with Robete Guresone. When the Kelelemi War Coalition formed, Halma and all Clans save for Cemho'ki joined, and the Joint-Clan Navy formed for the war effort.The Farloe District and Unity Territories, however barred citizens from interfering in the Kelelemi Civil War. The Serene Union started accepting refugees from Kelelemi on 24-4 10 PC. There was an attempt to pass the Aid of Other Lands Act in 11 PC, but the bill was stalled.
The Joint-Clan Navy bombarded Kerala Island on 6-5, and though Adama Hadetono survived, there were heavy casualties.
By the end of the civil war, Halma occupied Cherez'byy and Kanalminatovi, whilst the Joint-Clan Navy occupied Riashimi, Kitaishi, and Vyskati. These occupations were continued as administrated territories into the Provisional Republic.
Succession Crisis
When Emperor Spyron died in late 19 PC, it was unclear if his position as emperor would pass onto an heir, or if it was to be abolished and the Serene Parliament was to function without an absolutist safety net. While Spyron was always intent upon the parliamentary democracy as the functioning system of the Serene Union, the fact that he reserved the ability to resume absolute power, and the fact that this had been a required measure for the state to function in the past, was taken by many as being proof that the Imperial seat had to exist. Following his death, several factions emerged:
- The Serene Parliament, who were largely intent on the position being abolished.
- The Rondan, Wegoli, Tavlo, and Cemho'ki clans, who said that the next emperor should be chosen by a vote of the leaders of all the internal divisions, as is normal for Clan leader succession.
- The Skanya, Kamayukino, and Vanko clans, as well as the Commissar of Halma, who said that as the Serene Union began as the union of states that Spyron was head of, every state shall have his successor in their own manner.
- Brip, Lovi, Farloe, and the Roja, who took to the idea that the title should pass dynastically to Spyron's eldest son, Dantano Spyron.
- In Gomlexica, Jomui, and Momami, opinions were divided between the later two of the above, as well as a smaller group who believed the Emperor should become an elected position.
- A fringe portion believed that the Welecin Sept from which Spyron originated was, despite his casting off of the name, still his legal clan, and as such the leader should come from there. This opinion was only popular among the Welecin Sept.
In the immediate days following Spyron's death none acted, due to a three month mourning period that the Serene Parliament called. The leaders of the Clans attempted to organize a summit for the nomination of a new leader on the day after the Emperor's funeral, but this proved difficult; in Clan law nominees for leader must declare themselves first before the subleaders vote, and the only valid candidates were the direct descendants of Spyron, none of whom initially were interested. Most of Spyron's family were intent on Dantano succeding his father, but Dantano himself stood with the parliament.
The first to act was Halma, where the Commissar made a statement on 13-4 20 PC declaring that, as the next in the governmental hirarchy of Halma, he was now both the emperor and commissar. He then announced that he would be running for election as Emperor in Gomlex. Parliament immediately contested this, and a vote was called to send the army into Halma, which narrowly failed. This sparked an argument, during which speaker Roval Conxas yelled that there was no legal precident for the Emperor to have a successor at all. There were then several votes called to create a legal precident, one of which narrowly passed. At this point however the argument had grown out of control, and it only passed because large portions of parliament had left the room in protest.
Upon hearing that Parliament had broken apart, Dantano came to agree with the rest of his family, and publically laid stake to the throne on 29-4 20 PC. A corronation was held in Gomlex on 7-8 20 PC, which was attended by the heads of all divisions, despite only Birp, Farloe, Lovi, the Roja, Jomui, Gomlexica, and Momami recognizing it. After several months of negotiation, the Clans eventually knelt to Dantano, now serving under the regnal name Spyron II, and ceremonally held an election in absentia for him as leader. Halma was the last to conceed, doing so only under threat of millitary action on 30-12 23 PC.
Isolation
Though Spyron II's reign was officially uncontested, his standing was unstable, as were standings between the various factions within the union. Because of this, the 20s and 30s saw the Serene Union focus internally, with little interaction with the outside world. Parliament was reassembled, and were allowed to act mostly independantly, with Spyron II only intervening when neccesary to stop it from dissolving itself. By the end of his reign, Spyron II had similarly high approval to his father, as a unifier (albeit of a much softer variety) and peacekeeper.

Geography
Spyron is a collection of islands, the vast majority of land belonging to Alongi, whos south is the most flat with the south-west being the flattest and the most fertile. There is also a good amount of flat lands on the eastern side of the island but they are not as fertile, the centre of the island is far more uneven and at some places it is even mountainous, with the notable Dag-kon peaks being one of the most notable landmarks for clanmen and all Spyronians.
The North of the main islands has smaller flatlands which are surrounded with more hilly terrain with one valley which comprises the north and south flatlands. The Rojanta Peninsula and its nearby islands are a more tropical environment.
Modern Politics
Emperor Spyron is still the leader for the nation and is seen well by the people but his idea for the democratic government has not given fruit, as it failed to deal with the food crises due focussed on political wins instead of food on the table, but his idealism is still there and when there is a enough food for everyone he plans for the power of the Serene government to be restored, provided nothing bad happens to him.
The Government is divided between the Emperor and his court (his advisors, and the Serene Seal companies), and the Serene Parliament, which is made from representatives from the internal divisions. The majority of them side with a party but there is a notable number that are independent that only represent the views that they were chosen on. Due to parliament's failures dealing with the famine the emperor has final say on all acts and doesn't need their approval to make new laws.
Major Factions
Serenity faction (Gomlex and Momami schools)
The Serenity faction believes in Spyron’s vision for the nation, with their main focus on the unity of all people in Spyron, but they differ on the future identity of the people, with the Gomlex School believing in the old identities and cultures staying in a unified Spyron and the Momami School believing in a new Spyronian identity that will replace the the old Clanmen and Tanospy, the Momami school also has tension with the Roja minorities. Their popularity is stable but the different schools of thought are getting more and more different.
Lidaqek Coalition
The Clan Coalition is made up of proud Clanmen but who believe in the Spyron state, they mainly believe in regional autonomy mainly for the Clanmen but recently they began swaying both Roja and Tanospy individualists. Currently they are losing support from the Spyronians and clanmen.
The Great Dome Pact (nicknamed the Domeys)
The Great Dome Pact is made from old Tanospy parties from pre-unification, they are mainly focused on economic development with the reopening of the factories after being abandoned from the current famine. Their support is growing because of the stabilization (but not ending) of the famine, but nowhere as big as they were before it because they are seen as the main reason it got as bad as it is.
The “Eternal Years of Building” agreement
The EYB is focused on social development and equality, being founded on the ideas for Haruki’s “30 years of building” that were cut short from his death but now under the Spyronian nation has been revived with a focus on all people. It is a very pragmatic party, there has never been a government without them because of their willingness to work and compromise to get their vision. Despite their ideas being based on Haruki’s ideas they were founded by and have their main support base by the Roja people and their support is growing outside of the Roja communities.
Major unsanctioned movements
The Harukists
Being made up of old Rondanis that never gave up on the destiny of a Great Rondanska, the Harukists see Spyron the Unifier as a traitor to the clans and a false leader, their members might be extremely loyal but they are aging and the youth doesn’t have the same vigour and mysterium over the Haruki name.
The “Welo Restorers”
The Welo Restorers unlike the Harukists are not a unified movement but more of idea of Tanospy supremacist, the name of Welo Restorers comes from a common dog whistle that they use, The common Tanospy don't see them in high regard but there is a notable amount of them in Halma and especially among the armed forces.
Society
The Serene Union is made up of 3 major identities with a growing artificial identity which was made after the union's creation.
Tanospy:~40% of the population
The Tanospy reside one the the south west of the island, despite living on far less land that the Clanmen they have a higher population due to living on the most fertile and stable land. This was not always the case, in the pre-sanitation history they had a smaller population than the clans due to the more common disease outbreak from living close together and the raiding from the clans, meaning that they had to be more resourceful with what they had, in the modern day it has imprinted a sense of innovation to stay one step in front of any opponents.
Clanmen: ~30% of the population (~10% Rondan)
The Clanmen might have a larger land area with more raw goods in that land but they never had the farmland to fully reach their potential. The clan system of government has always relied on personal popularity and charisma with many great heroes rising from nothing and powerful leaders losing everything, but from Haruki II onwards the system began to be ruled by fear from the powerful and the lower ranks following to keep the place in the world. Now in a post-union society and the peace between the people, the youth see the clans as a chain holding their society back and wish to have more Tanospy types of government, and of course there has been lage pushback against it by the more traditional population.
Roja: ~10% of the population
The Roja are the largest minority on the island, with a strong communal identity and willingness to work pragmatically instead of ideologically allowing them to have many to rise the ranks of society and become some of most influential politicians in the post-unification Spyron. Power comes people trying to use people's fear for their own gain, with the most infamous example of someone like this being Marjan Olxcar for who was well known for anti Roja rants in the Serene parliament was exposed for storing most of his personal wealth in a Rojan bank, now there is a Roja saying of “Even those who hate us trust us with their money”.
Spyronian: ~20% of the population
There is now a notable amount of people who have abandoned their old ties to the what they seen as the case of so much war and embraced the idea of Spyron unity (or even raised as the only thing they knew), the idea of a Spyronian identity is see as a threat by older clanmen, and neither the Tanospy nor Roja would often put out their neck to defend them, yet the idea still has many people swayed over to the promise of unity.
Economy and Resources:
Spyron is a diverse and industrialised modern economy, but due to the current rationing agriculture is now the main focus of both the private and public sectors, old industry on the more fertile land is demolished to make way for farms and the ones that aren't are left to rust.
The southern side of the island is mainly focused on agriculture and the famine means it is subsidised and is reliant on the Serene Companies to keep operating. The clanlands are more reliant on raw goods extraction than what once went to southern industry but due to the south's move to farming the factories began to be constructed close to the goods, ironically making Haruki’s dreams of an industrial clanlands finally true.
