Lighthouse Island

Lighthouse Island, formerly known as Sarrhusar or Soluga, is an island located to the east of the Rossan city of Buglio. It has served as the formal headquarters of the House of Light, an economic and military alliance. Originally claimed by both Deysachin and La Rossa, a short lived feud over the territory in 42 PC would eventually lead to the Miracle on Lighthouse Island, as the two nations would together construct a lighthouse in a mutual effort to one-up each other. The event led to an easing of tensions, culminating in the creation of the alliance alongside Okrit and the Dvergur.

Due to the island's peculiar position, both La Rossa and Deysachin had knowledge of the island prior to the Grand Calming. As the Storm split the island into two, minor settlements were created on both sides of the island without either having the knowledge of the existence of the other. The island's barren geography contributed to its sparse population, as neither side had permanent settlements on the shale for most of their respective histories. While Deysachin would eventually construct a military base on the island, the Rossan side was mostly frequented by small fishing communities, due to the island's relative quiet in contrast with the populated mainland.

Although the status of the island was never fully resolved, the political reality and inter-island cooperation have led to neither nation making overt claims on the island following the incident. Officially managed as a shared territory of the House of Light (with member states having been given small pieces of territory on the island), its upkeep has mostly been administered by the Republic of La Rossa, due to its proximity to the island, constructing a bridge to the island and housing for administrative workers and the alliance delegates. Following the construction of the original lighthouse, named the Miracle Lighthouse, several more lighthouses were built to commemorate each nation that joined the alliance. The tallest lighthouse on the island, constructed upon the central hill of the shale, has been named the Grand House of Light, and has served as an international meeting location. All six of the lighthouses themselves have also served a functional role, guiding ships through dark or unclear conditions. The light of the lighthouses can be seen as far as Buglio, and have reportedly contributed to sleeping problems among coastal residents.

History

Deysachin

Sarrhusar was discovered by the explorer-saint Sarrhu in the Deysachni year 287, as part of his Expeditions Into The Un. He established a colony on the south shore, though settlement would not be continuous until the Calming, and would never move past the thick wall of shale in the center of the island.. The Sarrhusar Base was constructed on 12-1 2 PC, and continues opperation to this day. It is unclear when the Deysachni became aware of the Rossans, but the earliest unclasified document referencing this is dated to 34 PC. Following the Miracle, the entire island of Sarrhusar is a holy site.

La Rossa

The island of Soluga has likely been known and recognized since the 2700s TT, when signs of settlement first emerged around what is today known as Buglio. A moderately large mass of shale and rocks, strong weather brought on by the Storm disallowed permanent settlements be constructed on the island, with most of it remaining unexplored until after the Second Calming, only occasionally producing temporary fishing settlements during busier seasons. Its name derives from the Rossan solo, meaning alone or solitary, due to the harsh conditions that led to it staying abandoned throughout most of its history. Despite the island itself being uninhabited, the Strait of Soluga, a naval passage between the island and the mainland, would gain prominence as a major trade route that had existed between the 1400s and the Calming.
