Erynt Shote Liamia

Erynt Shote Liamia was the 8th Utyr of Unified Utlia. Known as the start of a period of decline for the Liamia dynasty, Erynt would take power in 855 TT following the suicide of her father, Swinn Liamia.

Early life

Erynt was born on 8-11 870 TT in Tinlea-Ut to Swinn Liamia and Syeren Liamia, growing up she was primarily raised by her mother Syeren as her father tended to be closed off, rarely interacting with her as a child, she picked up on many of her mothers interests, such as bug collecting. At the age of ten she was diagnosed with severe mental-ayestis, a mental illness she mostly likely inherited from her father, though he remained undiagnosed. The illness is characterized by the sufferers obsession with a specific hobby or thing and lack of care for much else in life, for Erynt this was her bug collection and terrariums, as a kid this was encouraged by her mother, who would spend much time creating terrariums and gathering bugs in the parks of Tinlea with Erynt. As an adult she gained an interest in baking, eventually culminating in a feast held by Syeren in the Liamia wyckryn where eighteen year old Erynt had made most of the food, guest testimony states that the food was slightly above average.

On 17-10 851 TT Erynt married Besren Shote, while technically he lost his Shote status after marrying into the Liamias, Erynt chose to honor his family by adding the Shote name to her own. The pair had their first child, Raktyn Liamia, on 11-7 850 TT.

On 5-1 855 TT, Erynt returned from a trip with her mother to find her father, Swinn dead via suicide. This incident had a lasting impact on her mental health but the most pressing matter was that she would be crowned Utyr. Her coronation parade was held on 15-1 855 TT.

Rule

Erynt was enthusiastic about being Utyr, she quickly filled her wyckryn with advisors and helpers, including the new title of "bug surveyor" who's job was to report if any bugs are seen in or around the wyckryn property. On 12-2 855 TT she left on a lerpok-long trip to the forests of North Utlia, where she would collect bugs for her terrariums, during this trip nobleman Orwyn Terent assassinated fellow nobleman Sye Lowsie over a livestock trade argument, this issue became a national incident but Orwyn was not officially put on trial until the return of Erynt, which the Terent family refused to operate any their farms for the period. Liamia head advisor Cemya attempted to mediate to prevent war between the two families and was successful at preventing all out violence, though some small brawls were reported. When Erynt returned on 22-2 she was overwhelmed at first but after a few hours of thinking, had the Royal Army arrest Orwyn and place the heads of Terent on oversight probation. Orwyn was sentenced to Yekajyu, his yek ceremony was on 25-2.

On 19-8 849 TT Erynt tried to enshrine a "festival of insects" but was blocked by a number of nobles and advisors who insisted the idea was of poor quality. As compromise she had the Erynt Botanical Gardens constructed in the large Deylyt park, located in central Tinlea-Ut, the botanical gardens became a prominent landmark of the park and a popular destination for people interested in plants or insects, which were also specially kept in the building.

Erynt had a continued problem where when a serious issue facing the Utlian people was brought up to her by an advisor or noble, she would ignore it, often telling them to "deal with it themselves" this culminated in the Nuriit of 848 TT, when a famine in Shote controlled land in the modern province of Wynlia led to a large mob burning down the Liamia manor in Balmor-Ut. Erynt responded to this with a reprimanding of those responsible, vowing to do everything in her power to persecute those in the mob, despite this, no arrests were ever made.

On 13-3 843 TT Erynt was embroiled in controversy after being seen drinking from the uruyk fountain in Tinlea, an Azztanist holy site. After the incident, ardey at the Shrine of Azzin, who also oversee the fountain, put up flyers decrying Erynt as blasphemous.

On 28-10 843, Erynt reportedly killed a hog with her bare hands, she was seen choking it out after it allegedly ate one of her pet mantises. This incident was quickly swept under the rug as on 30-10 of the same year, Erynt dissolved the noble family of Okepo, who were one of the original noble family holdovers from the Treaty of Bal. The reasoning given for the decision was that the Okepo have no purpose, which was true due to their 840 TT relinquishing of police and guarding duty, which was their only duty throughout their lifespan as a Unified Family. The controversy surrounding the dissolution also involved the fact that no advisors or noble family heads were consulted about the choice. After three weeks of debating among house heads and Utyr advisors the Okepo were not reinstated.

Death

On 12-10 802 TT, Erynt collapsed suddenly during the return from a trip to Unlaunen-Ut, she was quickly taken to the nearest medical practice in the town of Ukenr-Ut. She was admitted with a fever and extreme fatigue, unable to move much. In Ukenr she was diagnosed with muscle-eating Fielk, a rare variant of the auto-immune fielk disease. According to the Liamia neiry accompanying the Utyr during the trip, the doctors believed that they could isolate the spread of the disease by amputating the arm they had identified as infected, the royal guard detail appointed to Erynt protested this and the two groups spent a day in a stalemate before the guards relinquished and allowed the doctors to amputate the arm. Erynt was officially declared dead at noon on 12-10 802, the cause being blood loss from the amputation. The doctors were questioned following her death but no arrests or detainments were made.

Modern science has revealed that Fielk does not suddenly appear in a limb and spread out, once symptoms show, it is already present throughout the body. The case of Erynt is often used in university classes to show the ways Utlian medicine has advanced, along with how diseases were believed to operate in the past. Contemporary analysis of the case as described by the neiry reveals that Erynt could have survived had the doctors not amputated the limb, though she would be functionally paralyzed for her remaining life.

After her death the title of Utyr was passed down to her son Raktyn Liamia.

Legacy

Erynt is seen as the start of a period of decline for the Liamia dynasty, her eccentric personality and unpopular decisions while in power led her to being disliked by both the citizens and the nobles of Utlia. Contemporary historians cite Erynt as a core part of the reason why the Aremt were able to take the Utyr title, due to her alienation of the noble families and Azz'marin and her successors rejection to mend these relationships.

The era that Erynt started is known as the Four Fools, or Four Nremsey, referring to the four Liamia Utyr coming before Hens, who have similar legacies as idiotic and driven only by personal gains. Erynt is seen commonly as the most competent of the four fools.

In communities based around catching and caring for bugs she is well regarded as one of the progenitors of the hobby and a misunderstood Utyr.
