The Kingless Period was a period in Tokšahalnal history marked by the lack of a single ruling figure. It is defined as the time between Rumnkoke's death in 370 TT and The monarchist revolt led by Ksero in 340 TT. The Kingless Period is further divided into the reigns of the first and second councils of Tokšahalna (370-358 TT and 358-353 TT respectively) and the fragmented period which followed them, lasting until the end of the Kingless Period. During the fragmented period the population of Tokšahalna would dwindle, hitting it's lowest point of 522 people, roughly ⅓ of it's population at the time of Rumnkoke's death.
Background
In 378 TT the wealthy landowner Rumnkoke, whose father is not known, would organize an uprising against the reigning king of Tokšahalna - Wten'l Mêtâl, motivated by Mêtâls perceived unfair treatment of landowners, such as raising taxes for them while lowering those of guilds, and granting serfs certain privileges. Rumnkoke would lead the landowners and their armies to the palace, where they would storm the buidling and capture the king, who would later be executed by Rumnkoke, who would later declare himself to be king.
Rumnkoke's son - Rumnkokel Volley was only four years old at the time of Rumnkokes passing, as such, when Rumnkoke realized that he would not be able to take power after his death he created the Council of Tokšahalna, a governing body made up of 5 of his most trusted allies among the landowners, who would split the lands between each other but would rule the city proper together, only passing new laws and decrees by way of vote. This system was meant to be temporary, Rumnkoke believed the council members would give up their powers to Volley after he became old enough to rule.
