Yekajyu

Yekajyu or Sea Exile is an Utlian traditional festival that occurs in coastal towns when a prisoner commits a crime punishable by exile. Originally a Frish tradition, allegedly inspired by a Telan ritual, Yekajyu involves a festival and subsequent "exiling" of a prisoner via raft into the storm, while not technically considered an execution method it is commonly seen as one.

Event

Taking place on the end date of a prisoners sentence (usually a fairly short sentence, lasting on average ten lerpoks) the ceremony itself involves Yekmen, the executors of the exile itself taking the prisoner to a grassy court and guarding them as an oversi gives the prisoner their final statement on life. Outside of the court and prison there is a special feast held at the local shrine, where large banners and flags are waved to celebrate. Depending on the season of the Uewen, the aesthetics of the celebration will vary. Organization

The exile side of the event is managed by Yekmen and oversi, who are guards and judges respectively, certified in the Yek tradition and authorized to commit the act of exile themselves.

Post calm legacy

Since the calming the festival has gone out of practice, leading to academic debates within Utlia about the nature of the practice itself, taking into account the newfound knowledge of the rest of the world existing.
