Lwyin-Hermaed

Lwyin-Hermaed is an organized crime family and designated terrorist group in Utlia. Started by Areko Lywin in 14 TT and eventually merging with the Hermaed crime family in 10 PC, they are the most prominent or notable crime family in Utlia, as well as being disproportionately larger than the rest.

History

Beginnings

Areko Lywin was born to a poor family in Opers-Ut, a small port town in southern Azznin on 9-11 43 TT. Both of his parents worked as fishermen and ran a small fishing supply store. At the age of 14 he was witness to both of his parents being executed by the Ywylin secret police for alleged tax crimes. As he was too young to inherit any assets owned by his parents, the state took control of and sold off the land that had been in his family, in later interviews Areko states the foreclosure as the moment he decided to go into the business of crime, as it ruined his perception of law and the government in general. The land and shop eventually sold to the wealthy Koreka family, who planned to demolish it and build a seaside manor in its place. Angered by this, Areko began planning revenge on the family. The construction on the manor finished just after he had turned sixteen. For his first known crime Areko burned the building down two days before the family was set to come inspect and visit it. He was never arrested and the perpetrator of the arson was a mystery for decades before he publicly claimed to have done it. Following this event Areko illegally bought a small pistol from a military smuggler. Areko began following the Koreka family to their rural estate near Frizu lake in south Azznin, for his second crime he shot and killed six members of the Koreka family in the estate before looting and burning it down.

Rise to prominence

Following this he began recruiting thieves in Unlaunen-Ut for his budding operation. He would protect the thieves from the law and other criminals in exchange for a percent of profit they make off of goods. His operation grew and the Lywin family became semi-famous in Azznin. The organization didnt become known island-wide till 4 TT, when 2 events became massive news stories across Utlia.

Yerenek shootout

The first occurred when a simple collections job on a local butcher in Unlaunen turned to a shootout as the butcher had collaborated with provincial police. On 2-6 4 TT three armed Lywin family extortionists entered Yerenek's fresh cuts for their routine collection, unbeknownst to them, two plainsclothes officers posing as customers pointed non-service pistols at the men as the money was being handed over. In response the Lywin men opened fire in return, during the ensuing chaos the owner of the butchery, Yerenek was hit by a stray bullet from one of the officers, eventually both of the officers were killed, two Lywin members were injured, one much more severely than the other. By this time the event had drawn the attention of nearby Unlaunen militia members, who came and arrested the three men. This alone was a massive story and exposed the Utlian public to the world of criminal underground. The ensuing court case became a landmark in the history of Utlian law, as the three Lywin members were fully acquited by a judge, the reasoning behind the verdict being that the officers did not disclose their position and did not use their service weapons in the incident so the three men were simply defending themselves from what they assumed to be robbers.

Ariein assault

The second event from 4 PC that gave rise to the prominence of the family occured two months later on 12-8 4 TT when two men associated with Areko Lywin and his organization entered the Ariein noble family building in Mesyetet , at the time the third tallest building in Azznin. The two men were armed with UNF issued shotguns and bomb vests, they first threatened the receptionist and stated that they had no intent to harm anyone except the current patriarch of the Ariein noble house. Despite this intent they were responsible for the deaths of four security guards during the initial assault of the building; eventually they reached the Ariein office and killed three members of the family. By this time the building had been surrounded by police and the two men became part of the third longest standoff in Utlian history, keeping hostages for 16 hours before releasing them and detonating their bomb vests, damaging the building beyond repair. Motive for the attack is unclear, considering the two men did not plan on leaving alive it is assumed to be revenge on the Ariein for their continued prosecution of Lywin members.

Post calm endeavors

The group continued standard operation throughout the following decade, post-calm they began to partake in drug and weapon trafficking across the archipelago. in 14 PC the organization finalized a merger with the smaller but friendly Hermaed crime family, who operated out of North Utlia as part of a plan to monopolize the parts of Utlia they hadnt controlled fully yet.

In 20 PC the group was exposed for paying off a number of poltiicans and municipal militias to avoid prosecution.

In 29 PC, Areko Lywin died from a heart attack at his home in Opers-Ut, to mourn the man a week of peace was declared where any crime committed would go punished, whether the person was a member of Lywin-Hermaed or not. Areko was replaced by his nephew Meyes following a vote from a number of higher ups within the organization. In 30 PC Meyes married Nurrys Hermaed, the duaghter of Lyremen Hermaed.

In 55 PC The group began selling guns looted from battles in the Einru war to the Kalam terrorist group Modhes Temple and the Qoeul-bo, who also recieved twenty-five kilos of Araceko.

While media tries to paint the organization as part of some larger cause or movement like most designated terrorist groups, the only real position held by the group on the whole is being pro-crime. Areko himself has been vocal in the press for his hatred of the following:

After the death of Areko, Merriyem were allowed to join the organization in a controversial decision from Meyes Lywin.
