Telan Lung Disease
Telan Lung Disease was a disease native to Utlia. The disease is most known for in the modern day for being the cause of death for Shym Liamia
Discovery
Telan Lung Disease was discovered during the Azztan Annexations, when Utlian soldiers would return from Tela settlements nearly dead and covered in black rashes. It was found out that the Tela people had been long immune to the disease and would give it to Utlians without even noticing.
Much later, in 312 TT it was discovered that the disease had originated from the bogs of Direnomut and had caused a pandemic within the Tela city-states.
Symptoms
The primary symptom of Telan Lung Disease is not actually related to the lungs, but instead the outer-most layer of skin. The first sign of the disease is a black rash that slowly melts through the top layers of skin, causing an increasing amount of pain the longer a patient is affected by it. Other symptoms can include vertigo, ear bleeding, yellowed fingernails, slurred speech and fainting. The only symptom related to the lungs is the discoloration in organs, mainly the lungs. This is the first sign of the disease but does not work to prevent it as the victim would already be dead by the time doctors are looking at the interior of the body.
Noticeable symptoms do not appear until at least 1 month after contact with an infected individual, after which the affected person will get most symptoms at the same time.
History
After being brought back by Utlian soldiers, the city of Balmor-Ut became a holding camp for all soldiers for 2 years to prevent a widespread pandemic, while doctors worked to find a cure for the disease. During this time the city was extensively quarantined and monitored. The city fell into disrepair as very few people were willing to care for and maintain the urban area, this led to much of the historic center of Balmor being demolished.
In 990 TT the Utyr, Shym Liamia was killed by the disease after a royal visit to a hospital that contained an outbreak, just months before a cure was found.
Treatment
The cure was found by Utlian medical researchers in 989 TT, the ingredients to which being multiple precise amounts of normally poisonous plants native to the Direnomut variant.
In modern Utlia the disease is extinct in the wild.
