Mersen-Ut

Mersen-Ut is a city in Mountange, it is Utlias 6th largest city, with a population of 100k. It has the highest percentage of Merriyem citizens in Utlia. Historically the capital for the Merriyem people, Mersen has been a center for battles and violence in Utlian history, with governmental group Mersen Front controlling the city and Merri region for most of Utlian history, multiple uprisings have been started and put down in the city.

History

Due to the burning of Mersen during the first Merriyem Uprising, many historical documents and logs have been destroyed, leading to the cities history being quite fragmented.

Discovered by an expedition of Frish explorers headed by Vyren Kiyrn in 1800 TT, this segment of the greater Kiyrn exploration was later called the "Merri Expedition" during this time. During the Kiyrn visit to Mersen itself and the surrounding confederation the group met with the Merri chief council; they were given gifts throughout their stay by various guides. Soon after the men returned home, the Frish king Zyetel ordered the newly discovered land to be annexed, to avoid pushback however the Mersen confederation itself was put under special, slightly more independent guidelines.

Government

Prior to the Azztan restoration and Merri Merging Mersen was ruled by a council of chiefs, all from different towns in the loosely defined Confederation of Merse. In 360 the Merri merging occured and the chief council was replaced by a standard city government, with an overseer and Sumaasyl to govern the town; these were all overseen and often ran by the Mernyte noble family however.

Geography

Situated on the banks of the Kasa river (formerly Fratz river) within Mountange; surrounded by dense taiga, the city has a chilly climate. The oldest portions of the city are on the north edge of the river, where many traditional Merriyem architectural styles are present in one place.

Economy

The economy of Mersen is heavily based around manufacturing in post-calming times, with rapid industrialization being a key factory in the growth of the city. Prior to the calming, lumber and textiles were the primary exports of the city.
