Utlia is an island in the eastern archipelago

Pre-Unification era

City-state era

Earliest known settlement of Utlia comes from the Western Forests, now the Utlian Capital Territory, in these forests the first city-state was formed, Tela it prospers as Utlias first true civilization. Not long after, 2 more were formed nearby, the Dirn and Lesyhan, these three were all created sometime in 2750 TT. These three were the most important on the island but many smaller, less powerful ones sprouted in the north and south, including Kelna and Unlaunen

Twin Kingdoms and Unification

The Kelna and Unlaunen city states quickly outgrew the status, annexing and conquering large amounts of territory. The northern group became the Eutan Kingdom and the southerners became the Frish Kingdom.

Azztanism

Utlia prior to unification (Eutan kingdom in blue, Frish kingdom in green)

On 2-12 1800 TT Vyren Kiyrn met with the crab deity Azzta in the Maaryn, where he wrote the book Azztanism, which became the basis of the religion of the same name. Upon his return from the Frish Expeditions Azztanism became the majority religion in the Frish Kingdom. Between 1800 TT and 1730 TT the religion had become the primary religious status in the Eutan Kingdom as well, with the first Azztanist monarch being Leirtet Uyst, who converted from Wycalt sometime in 1735. The previous primary religion of the Eutan Kingdom, Wycalt was not outlawed but instead absorbed into the Eutan Azz'marin, with previous high ranking Wycalt ritualists being given positions of Cuspmen in exchange for conversion.

Unification

The two kingdoms eventually annexed all but the three original western city-states, protected by Tela as part of the Tin-pact. The two kingdoms had a friendly relationship due to common enemies and adherence to the same religion. On 4-7 1102 TT Wynlid Liamia and Shaen eien, the kings of the Eutan Kingdom and the Frish Kingdom respectively, met at a site near the Balmor river and signed a declaration of unification, merging the two into one kingdom, known as Utlia.

Unification era

Azztan Annexations

Not long after the unification was finalized, Wynlid Liamia began the Azztan Annexations, a holy invasion of the three Tin-pact city states and a genocide on its people. The annexations led to the extinction of both the Tela people and the Tela faith on Utlia. Following an Utlian victory, the capital of the unified kingdom was officially declared as Tinntean, a recently destroyed town south of the Tela capital. The town was renamed Tinlea-Ut and work was started on building into a city for Utlians. After the island was fully under his control, Wynlid signed a decree that set internal boundaries in Utlia. These became the Provinces of Utlia. After this decree Wynlid led a peaceful rule until his death in 1060 TT.

Liamia dynasty

Lofse and Merriyem

After the death of Wynlid, his oldest son Lofse took over as Utyr. The rule of Lofse is known mostly for his revival of Frish laws against the Merriyem minority people group. During Wynlid's time as Utyr he had been approached multiple times by Frish scholars who suggested he ban Merriyem from leaving Mersen and the surrounding area. Wynlid ignored these suggestions and allowed the Merriyem to live with generally the same freedoms as any Utlian. At the start of Lofse's rule he employed a Frish race scientist in Unlaunen-Ut who informed him that the Merriyem were dangerous and he could not allow them in Tinlea. This led to his banishing of them in the capital on 1-5 1058 TT. On 10-5 he expanded the ban to all cities in Unified Utlia, relegating the people to the north shores and Mersen.

Shym and plague

Lofse died in 1000 TT during a hunting trip where he was mauled by an Urla. Records involving Lofse are spotty due to his insistence on his memory over traditional methods of information tracking. It is known his daughter Shym was born sometime between 1020 and 1030 TT. Shym took power as Utyr in 1000 TT following his hunting accident, she was the first female to hold the title of Utyr. While not much changed under her, Shym was one of the most popular Utyr during the first Liamia dynasty, a cult of personality forming around the woman. Utlia under Shym saw a major outbreak of Telan Lung Disease, an infectious virus that gave soldiers returning from the Azztan Annexations black rashes that slowly melted through the skin, along with blackened lungs that gave the disease its name. While initially contained after the annexations, an outbreak in northern Utlia city Balmor-Ut in 995 TT led to the city being widely quarantined and shut off from the rest of the island. In 990 TT Shym visited a hospital in the city and was warned by doctors that she should not approach or make contact with any of the patients. During the royal visit Shym broke the no contact rule twice, when she returned to Tinlea she was diagnosed with Telan Lung disease and died the same year.

Lofses, Vyme

Following the death of Shym her husband, Lofses Liamia took the title of Utyr due to the young age of their children at the time. The rule of Lofses is generally unimportant, he ruled for 30 years before dying of natural causes. After his death Vyme Liamia, Lofses and Shyms eldest son, took over at the age of 25. Vyme is known for being a caring leader and his prosperous rule, where the population of cities and towns began to outnumber the population in rural villages and homesteads. In 899 TT he was mysteriously found dead, at the time he was pronounced to have died by cardiac arrest but modern scholars have assumed that his son Jrinea poisioned him.

Jrinea and the Azz'marin

Jrinea Liamia was 36 when he took power, his rule is the shortest of any Utyr, lasting only 6 months. This is in part due to his rampant mental illness but mostly due to his spat with the Azz'marin. In 899 upon taking power Jrinea stated during a drunken speech that he would do everything in his power to dissolve the Kiyr Committee, complaining that they had more power than the most powerful people in the country. In early 898 he got into a fight with 2 members of the Kiyr Committee outside a bar in Tinlea-Ut, where he spotted the men walking down the street as he exited the bar, he punched one of the men multiple times and ran away. The following week he had been missing. His body was found on 2-4 898 TT, an autopsy was never conducted and the corpse was buried without funeral in an unmarked grave.

Swin II

Jrinea was unmarried at time of death and did not have children or siblings. The title of Utyr was put in the hands of the Kiyr Committee, who bestowed it on Jrineas cousin, Swin II, as he was deemed most competent of the Liamias. Swin II moved to Tinlea-Ut from Kelna-Ut in 898 and became Utyr at the age of 30. The rule of Swin was largely uneventful, morale of Utlian citizens was raised following the death of Jrinea. Swin is most well known for being a painter in the Lyremen Shote style of abstract landscapes.

Erynt, Raktyn, Yerant, Carys

Swin II and his wife's eldest daughter was Erynt Shote Liamia, who chose to add the Shote name instead of just keeping Liamia when marrying Lenter Shote. Erynt took power after the death of Swin in 898 TT. The rule of Erynt, along with the following 3 Utyrs is known as a period of decline, with the rule of Carys being known for famine and death.

Hens

After the previous four Utyr were a disaster was upended when Hens Liamia took power in 680 TT and began sweeping reforms. One of the major changes made by Hens was the boosting of the Kiyr Committee to a status equal to royal advisors, as well as giving the Arznyr the same powers as the standard military. While this did not change average Utlian life much. In 676 TT the Aremt family, supported by the Slofyr and Lyneset began the succession war against the Liamia family. After 14 years the anti-Liamia coalition won and the first Aremt dynasty began.

Aremt dynasty

Heres and Tereyni

Land held by the Mersen Front at the peak of the first uprising

After winning the title of Utyr, Heres Aremt undid many reforms put in place by the first Liamia dynasty, including the Kiyr Committee status promotion. The most important thing Heres did was banish the Kiyr Committee, who had been operating in Tinlea-Ut, to Unlaunen-Ut. In 651 TT Heres fell off his horse and died, leaving the Utyr status to his brother Tereyni. Tereyni only ruled for five years but within that time he completely exiled the Merriyem, who had been gaining rights throughout the Liamia dynasty post-Shym, back to Mersen. In 646 TT he was assassinated by a soldier of the Royal Army who was angered by Tereyni's changes to Utlian Military meal system. While there is evidence the man was actually hired by higher ups within the military to commit the crime, this has not been thoroughly investigated by modern historians and it is a subject of debate.

Laraset

After the death of his father Tereyni, Laraset Aremt took over as Utyr. Laraset, while ruling for longer than both previous dynasty heads, was mired by illness throughout his time as Utyr. He would rarely make appearance outside and when he did he never stayed long. The major event he is remembered for is his furthering of Anti-Merriyem laws, in 633 TT he had 3 Merriyem men executed in central Mersen for leaving the designated Merriyem zone, in 634 he ordered a second, larger execution featuring five alleged criminals, this did not happen as on 3-7 634 TT the Merriyem state, calling itself the Mersen Front declared war on the Kingdom of Utlia in what is now known as the first Merriyem Uprising Laraset himself was killed by illness later that year.

Tonnel and the first uprising

When Tonnel Aremt took power he immediately began to lead a pillaging force towards Mersen, as he also made himself the head of the Royal Army, after burning large portions of Mersen down he returned to Tinlea to find that the city, along with prominent towns nearby had been sacked as well. Enraged by this he returned and burned an even larger portion of Mersen, despite his attempts to destroy the city he lost both actual battles fought during this event. In mid 631 Tonnel managed to put down the uprising, with heavy causalities for the Royal Army. He died 12-9 631 TT from an infection in a wound he gained during the war.

Arhynt and Jeym

From 631 to 619 TT an Aremt man named Arhynt ruled as Utyr, though very little is known about the period beyond his name and reign due to the archive fire of 600 TT, which was targeted at Arhynts section. What is known is that in 619 Arhynt likely died of infection, leaving his son Jeym in power. Jeym Aremt ruled for 9 years until he challenged Elyn Lowsie to a duel over property rights in Tinlea-Ut, Jeym lost the duel.

Lowsie "dynasty"

Elyn Lowsie was the only Utyr of the Lowsie family, ruling for one year, until Saryc Aremt executed Elyn and took the title of Utyr for himself in 609 TT.

The three thirds

Aremt third

The second Aremt Dynasty lasted from 609 - 560 TT and had three Utyr, Saryc, Lerent and Lyremeren. These three were wildly unpopular compared to even the least popular of the first Aremt dynasty, after Saryc died of infection, Lerent assassinated a number of high profile Mersenites, leading to the second Merriyem uprising. After Lerent died in battle, Lyremeren became Utyr, he was then captured and executed by the Merriyem.

Kiyr Committee intervention

Following these deaths the Kiyr Committee noticed there was no suitable heir to the Aremt throne, leading them to take power to "prevent a power struggle" though it is argued by modern scholars that the Committee took control largely to prevent continued Aremt rule, viewing them as "incompetent inbreds."

From 560 to 550 TT Yret Larnt of the Kiyr Committee ruled as a provisional Utyr. This decade became known as the Time of Patronage due to the Kiyr Committee expressing intent to give the title of Utyr to a noble family of their choosing, both Yret and the Azz'marin at large recieved a large amount of gifts, donations and kind words from wealthy families across Utlia.

Terent third

Yret and the Kiyr Committee voted to bestow Utyr onto the Terent family, a noble house from Unlaunen with heavy ties to the Azz'marin. Upon gaining power Cerwyn Terent made peace with the Merriyem, stopping the second uprising, in 502 TT he died of old age. The times of Hernen and Selient Terent were generally peaceful, at some point in 428 TT it was discovered that the Terent family had a hereditary disease known as Direnestia, which causes brain decay in affected individuals, following this revelation Selient resigned from the title, giving it back to the Kiyr Committee.

Slofyr third

The committee voted 3-2 to give the title of Utyr to the Slofyr Family, Slanyen Slofyr was the first Utyr of the dynasty and in 425 TT he started a holy war to "purify" the Merriyem people, while this war was less violent than previous scuffles between Utlia and Mersen, it dragged on far longer than Slanyen hoped, he died in 411 TT, being replaced by his son Heartya, who ruled for 11 years, he is known for prolonging the war even further, rejecting peace talks and refusing to agree to anything with the Merriyem. Heartya had cardiac problems since birth and in 400 TT he went into cardiac arrest, leaving Utlia in the hands of his uncle Werzent

Restoration

Around the time of Heartya's death and start of Werzents rule, Mal Liamia had begun the Azztan Restoration, a revolt to bring the Liamia family back into power, she believed that both Vyren Kiyrn and Azzta himself chose the Liamias as the one and only holy family and Utlia is doomed without them in control. She allied with the Kiyr Committee, who had been banished again by Heartya. She also allied with the Mersen Front, promising them freedom, peace and equality under a second Liamia dynasty. Many members of the Royal Army defected to Mal and the Mersen side, either for religious reasons or being tired of fighting the war that at this point had outlived two Utyr. In 397 TT Mals forces stormed Tinlea-Ut, leading to the Liamias gaining power again and the execution of both the Aremt and Slofyr remaining family for "False Azztanist" practices during the Night of Fire. Upon taking the throne Mal changed her name to Azzmia and was enshrined as a Sojourner by the Kiyr Committee while still alive. Following the Night of Fire Azzmia made peace with the Merriyem Front.

In 337 TT Azzmia was found dead in her study. Following her death there were large funeral parades in every Utlian city, the largest being in the capital Tinlea-Ut. Azzmia had no children and the title of Utyr went to her nephew Cemry

Second Liamia dynasty

Cemry Liamia's first action was to fold the Merriyem Front into the Royal Army, along with peacefully annexing remaining Merriyem land.

Republic and post-calming

Utlia post calming

Revolution

Tensions between the Royal Army and the Utyr had been brewing since the start of Ywylins rule, with him electing to create his own private army and use funding originally meant for the RUA, the budget of the RUA being decreased by 70% to better outfit what many Royal Army leaders believed to be their replacements. Ywylin was also unpopular due to Utlia having an intense decrease in standard of living during his rule, leading to the formation of revolutionary groups like the Radicals of Utlia and Peasants of East Utlia. These groups were not successful initially but after the schism between the Utyr and Royal Army the head of the RUA, Mal Ignis began arming and supporting the factions against Ywylin, leading to the proper start of the Civil War in 10 TT. Mal collaborated with the Radicals of Utlia leader Votan Lainya throughout the conflict, the two decided during the war that childhood friend of Votan and soldier, Yyme Braia would lead the nation after the fall of Ywylin. In 6 TT the civil war ended and Yyme Braia took the Presidency of Utlia with Votan as his Lt. President and Mal as military advisor. Despite the name Yyme was not really a president, he was unelected and did not facilitate any federal elections during his term.

Yyme

One of Yymes first actions in power was the signing of a military alliance with the Kingdom of Akaria on 5-4 2 PC, this would be the start of the Akuta pact, the longest running alliance in world history. On 23-1 and 24-1 of 5 PC Yyme was a part of the Agreement Agreements with Akaria and Eee, leading to the creation of the Eastern Bloc, which Utlia would join. On 28-3 10 PC, the ATFS Arakar of the Akarian Trade Fleet was destroyed by the Sorewa Liberation Uprising (SLU), plunging Kelelemi into a state of chaos. Two days after the attack Harakar convened a meeting of the Akarian-Utlian Alliance in Oksken, which Yyme, Hia and Votan attended. At the meeting it was decided that High Director of the Akarian Navy, Akrake Oken was to plan the Akarian and Utlian intervention against the SLU.

Death

A new strain of the Common Mor-Virus, given the name Mor-Virus-2, was discovered in South Utlia on 19-2 16 PC. The strain was found to be fatal on 19-7 16 PC when two South Utlian men died to the disease two weeks after contraction. The next day Yyme Braia ordered for reduced movement between states and put both South Utlia and Direnomut under quarantine.

Yyme was hospitalised with the Mor-Virus-2 on 3-12 16 PC with Votan taking over his duties on the Inter-governmental Radio System. On 7-12 16 PC Yyme was pronounced dead by Utlian doctors after dealing with a bout of Utlian common mor-virus.

Hia

Hia El is the former mayor of Balmor-Ut and was chosen as a prodigy of Yyme's, being brought with or sent to meetings, she was active in the Kelelemi conflict prior to her presidency. After the death of Yyme in 16 PC The Utlian Presidential Nomination Committee was created to internally elect a new president, voters including province level politicians and bother Lower & Upper Cabinet members. Hia was elected on 9-12 16 PC as second President of Utlia. On 15-3 18 PC Hia El ordered the mobilization of the Utlian National Army and recalled Utlian ships of the Utlian Aquatic Forces into port. This came after the the Arkara of Akaria, under the leadership of Artak Arkara released a document containing evidence that Johnakar Oken – the late father of at time time Living King, Harakar Oken – had ordered the deaths of several notable figures across the Attu Archipelago including Kamakta Arkara and Vidar Astridson. On 8-6 18 PC Hia El, Mal Ignis, Losfen Merse, Ire Liamia, and Areen Leshen met with Harakar and the rest of the Akarian leadership at Fort Garikoph to discuss the ongoing tension with the CNN. At the meeting it was agreed that the Eastern Bloc would move against the CNN until they attacked first.

Democratizing

On 28-9 22 PC Hia announced an administrative break, leaving Lt. President Lofsen Merse in charge for around 5 months. Upon returning from her break she announced the creation of an electoral system where citizens would be allowed to vote in federal elections, also announced was the formation of the UBP, Utlias first political party. In 24 PC former Upper Cabinet member Ire Liamia ran for the UBP against Vyma Arnea of the TPU, a loose collection of anti UBP factions.

Ire

Flag of Brenjia upon gaining provincial status

Ire Liamia won the first Utlian federal election with around 70% of the vote. In 24 PC, the same year he took office, he was kidnapped by Artak Arkara and put before the heads of all Akarian Kadrikes to be executed, this came as a response to the Utlian Ossbosche Crisis and alleged Utlian interfering in the Akarian government. During his supposed execution Artak himself was challenged and killed by Lightning Arkara and Perat. In his first term Ire became known as a wartime president, due to his involvement in both the First Great Attu War and Nongban civil war. In the first great Attu War Ire ordered the bombardment of Brenjia, a major city on the island of Casea, following the Battle of Brenjia, Prias Jerifram-Aca met with Swyl Shote representing Ire Liamia. During this meeting Prias offered to become a protectorate of Utlia, Swyl accepted this offer and Brenjia came under Utlian supervision.

In 25 PC Ire promoted his member for foreign affairs in the Upper Cabinet, Swyl Shote to the position of Lt President.

Ire won re-election in 28 PC in a landslide against Sern Bes, during his second term he oversaw the end of the Nongban Civil War, in which Utlia was a primary participant, gaining Liaia in the end. His second term also saw the formation of an aliance with Prefichi, further cementing Utlia against the Caseic Federation. He decided to run again in 32 PC, unknown to him, in the leadup to the 32 PC Federal Election Swyl Shote and Sern Bes agreed to form a coalition between Utlia's 2 largest parties, the UBP and UAG, this enraged Ire, leading to a fight with Swyl and Ire's temporary ban from politics.

Swyl

Swyl Shote won the 32 PC Federal Election with his running mate in the newly formed coalition, Sern Bes as Lt President. The coalition won with 58% of the vote, during his terms Swyl did not leave Utlia often, as he did not like to travel and leave the island alone.

In 40 PC Sern Bes announced in a drunkenly rambled speech that he and Swyl had finished a law that fully dissolved all political parties into one known as the Coalition of Utlian Radicals (COUR). Sern was detained and exiled due to a string of bad behavior and working behind the backs of Swyl. In 41 PC Swyl sent Lodwyn Elsteay, the head of the Central bank of Tinlea to the Dux of La Rossas banquent.

In 42 PC Brenjia held a referendum on its future, the majority of citizens voted to become a province of Greater Utlia, this process was overseen and approved by Swyl. Swyl met with Ramchoi Banokan. This came after a series of disputes over Akarian prescense in Utlia, centering on the Oken Manor in southern Utlia. The two met in neutral ground within Tietero, during the meeting Ramchoi was angered by Swyl's refusal to comply with him, leading to Ramchoi attacking Swyl, beating him to death before escaping back to Akaria and forming the League of the Heavy Fist.

Provisional government

Due to Swyls' firing of Sern Bes he was without a LT President, in Utlian law this meant the nation would be governed by a provisional government made up of important groups that will decide the successor. These groups being the same groups that are part of COUR:

Following the murder of Swyl, the provisional government of Utlia left the Akuta pact and denounced Akaria. Also done by the provisional government was the deportation of all Akarian-born residents of the island. On 12-1 43 PC the groups voted for a leader, Ire Liamia won the election by 1 vote on behalf of the Central Bank of Tinlea.

Ire second term

Ire was quickly instated as president with him choosing Lodwyn Elsteay as his Lt. President.
