Wreth Communine

The Wreth Communine was a short lived city-state in North Utlia that was annexed by the quickly expanding Eutan Kingdom, following its destruction as a state it became a cult-like sect of extremists operating throughout the wilds and forests of central and north Utlia.

History

in 2050 TT the Wreth state was officially formed by a group of Telan and Eutan merchants led by a man named Preynaeka, the settlement was founded on the idea that all residents of the island should coexist and prosper together, they were banned from both Tela and Kelna shortly after their first meetings, leading them to establish Wreth in modern day north Wynlia province.

Early statehood

Preynaeka was the one and only leader of the Wreth state and required that all citizens of the city subscribe to his religion, which itself required a special ceremony to enshrine someone as a member of. In 2045 the city-state reached a population of 860 according to the Telatlas, one of the first guides to the island of Utlia, specifically centered on the Tin-pact states and surrounding areas. To celebrate the achievement Preynaeka held a festival dubbed "The Celebration of Kindling" during which mass fires were started in the forests near Kelna-Ut, drawing negative attention to the Wreth state from the Eutans for the first time. Other acts committed during the night of the festival included the theft of Brenya from Pyel farmers, placing of effigies and ring dancing. After deeming it successful it was decided that the Celebration of Kindling would become an annual event in the city. For the following decade the city continued to grow and expand, more festivals and events were created by Preynaeka and his Wrethmen, the special cabinet of yes-men he kept to make the city-state feel like it had real governance. Despite the well off state of Wreth and general safety of the region for followers of the Communine, In 2028 TT, during a celebration festival for reaching the population milestone of 1250, three Eutan citizens were kidnapped by a small party of drunk festival goers, the citizens were brought back to Wreth and subsequently had all their blood drained before being displayed on Hekyate trees, the trees were then set on fire. Modern historians consider this event to be the start of a war between the Wreth and Eutania.

Raids

First raid

Following what was dubbed the "Hekyate atrocity" the expanding Eutan kingdom was flung into a mass hysteria and fearmongering campaign based around the idea that the Wreth were coming for the state and that they may be agents of Tela. Eventually Tyrep Menawtla Eutanilk had to step in, in a speech given in early 2027 TT she promised to eradicate all enemies of the stateand exact revenge on the "vile" Wycalt deniers of the south, referring to the Wreth Communine. Soon after, around 4 lyets of Eutan troops were rallied and made their way to Wreth. Much of what happened in Wreth during the first raid is attested to by a number of journals and post-raid loot reports, the most prominent of which was written by an unknown soldier who painstakingly described everything that happened during the raid in his journal, Uerekt Oopenol. Upon reaching the city, Eutan troops were met with little resistance and an open gate, already on alert, the men cautiously surveyed the city center, which was empty of people. After checking and looting a number of houses, the men reported that there was nobody in the city except a small number of slopfriends. 3 of the lyets went home after looting, the fourth lyet proceeded into the tower at the far end of the walled city. Within the tower the men were ambushed, half of the men were killed by robed figures who blended in with the dark halls of the building. As the remaining troops descended the tower they eventually reached a large underground area that was housing the citizens of Wreth, as retribution a number of Eutan soldiers lit one of the rooms in the underground, one that contained a large number of the Wreth followers ablaze. After this act, the five soldiers who had participated in the fire-starting unsheathed their Lenka and proceeded to stab themselves in the heart. The remaining five men proceeded further into the underground, where they eventually came upon a large chamber, in which Preynaeka and his Wrethmen were performing a ritual, during the ritual it is attested to by the three survivors that the Wrethmen began screaming in pain before melting into a bright orange slime and being drank by Preynaeka, who proceeded to kill two of the soldiers with a method described in Uerekt Oopenol as "A blinding light entered the chamber and as me and the two men to my side looked away, our compatriots across the room were not lucky, for a brief second I saw something completely indescribable, it was unlike anything else, I quickly closed my eyes again out of fear, when I opened them again the men across the room were gone" Preynaeka had escaped to the overground at this point, where he was met by a group of Tela soldiers on patrol, who stabbed him to death upon recognizing him.

Following raids

Upon recieving the news of what had happened in the Wreth, Tyrep Menawtla met with the Tela council and the two governments began a collaborative effort to research and eradicate the remaining stragglers of Wreth. This is one of only a few times the Eutan and Telan leaders worked together on anything. throughout the following months of 2027 and 2026 TT a number of raids, firebombings and lootings were lodged against the incredibly weak communine, who at this point was being ruled by Nereona, a Eutan man who had been an early adopter of the Wreth ideology and religion. During the fourth and final raid on the city Nereona and a number of his Wrethmen were captured and brought to Kelna, where he was interrogated about the strange properties of the land the city was built on. During his interogations he was shockingly cooperative and himself stated that he had no real idea what was happening under Wreth, only that it could be harnessed and used against trespassers in the region and nowhere else.

Accusations of power, final annexation

Nereona was officially released after he was deemed completely sane. His wrethmen were publically executed in late 2026 TT for "celestial crimes" and murder in relation to the worship of the Telan deity of stars, Leycometch whom the wrethmen claimed was living under the city. On 27-6 2025 TT what remained of the Wreth city became a part of the Eutan kingdom as part of a final push into what is now western Wynlia. The city became abandoned shortly after, with remaining devotees reforming as a nomadic group.

Stateless cult

Following the dissolution of the state itself, the Wreth Communine took the form of a loosely connected sect of travelling cultists who were active from 2020-1999 TT in Utlia before being captured by Telan patrols for blasphemy.

Along with a number of crimes, including arson and theft, the remaining Wreth followers began to operate religious service out of a large travelling tent, in which they sold a "cure all medicine" they called Leycomeyy, it was functionally useless as medicine but according to accounts from the time, it tasted of ripe hereup berries.

Nereona personality cult

While former Wreth statesmen Nereona was operating a bakery in Kelna, the nomadic communine members began to treat him as a living deity, praising him for his political prowess.

Modern re-evaulation of events

Modern scientists posit that much of what happened in and around the Wreth city-state was the result Hyeopla Disorder, a mental disorder caused by toxic gas inhalation that causes hallucinations and feelings of extreme fear or distress, however Hyeopla is known to be deadly after around an hour of exposure, meaning if it was the case, nobody would have survived living or raiding Wreth, especially before the invention of PPE. This has become a hotly debated topic in the syet-pryen branch of Utlian science, with some researchers believing that it was not Hyeopla and instead a reaction to interactions with un-assimilated syet-pryen organisms/entities.

Religion

Wreth religion was based on the idea that founder Preynaeka was chosen by the Telan deity Leycometch, who resided under the city-state itself.
