Flora of the Caseic Archipelago

The Caseic Archipelago is the habitat for a large variety of tropical plants.

Fruits

Caseic Gooseberry

The Caseic gooseberry (Caseic: Igrachaic sa Nerjai) is a mildly poisonous fruit which is planted in northern Casea to restore nutrients to the soil in between harvesting edible fruits. It is named the gooseberry because it is commonly eaten by Esiga geese, which are immune to its poison.

Durian

The durian (Caseic: Tachureic) is a common fruit grown north of the Great Caseic Mountains. It is known for its strong smell and sweet taste, and is typically eaten on its own.

Feijoa

The feijoa (Caseic: Feijowa) is a sour fruit grown in northern Casea, typically eaten on its own.

Pineapple

The pineapple (Caseic: Anananas) is a common fruit which grows south of the Great Caseic Mountains and in central Prefichi. It is known for its hard shell and sweet taste.

Tomato

The tomato (Caseic: Potaetec) is an uncommon fruit which is grown on the island of Brisa Minor. It is known for its savoury taste. It is commonly eaten on its own, but it is sometimes combined with other foods.

Banana

The banana is a vegetable grown in northern Casea.

Beans

North-eastern Casea, specifically Brenjia, Bainachia, and Esiga, are a suitable climate for the cultivation of various types of beans. The two main types of beans grown in this region are the Brenjia bean, which is reddish, caffeine-rich, and the basis of Brenji Morning; and the Bainachia bean, which is dark, protein-rich, and the basis of many simple foods in northern Casea.

Gourds

Gourds are commonly grown in the Greater Nayela Union. Sometimes they are used for their nutritional value, but they are more typically used to create vessels for water or alcohol. They are known for their savoury taste and soft texture.

Onions

The onion (Caseic: Taimochic) is a layered vegetable bulb typically cultivated in south-east Casea. It is commonly used for its mild sweet flavour and crunchy texture. It is known to occasionally cause eye irritation when prepared improperly.

Potato

The potato (Caseic: Tamaetec) is a vegetable related to the tomato. It is grown throughout the entirety of the Caseic Archipelago, and is a common staple of Caseic cuisine.

Radish

The Caseic sweet radish (Caseic: Asitec) is a vegetable grown on the south side of the Great Caseic Mountains. It is known for its soft texture and sweet taste when cooked, making it pair well with gourds.

Spices & Herbs

Caseic Pepper

The Caseic pepper (Caseic: Pripachec) is a spicy fruit which is grown on the north side of the Great Caseic Mountains. It is typically cultivated for its spice, which makes it useful for withstanding the heat and humidity of the northern Caseic climate.

Panifra Nut

The Panifra nut is a hard fruit whose shell is often filed to add flavour to fish dishes in south-western Casea.

Thyme

Thyme is an introduced herb from Deysachin which became popular in Wesia and is used in many dishes with tomatoes as it complements their flavour.

Other plants

Aubergine

The aubergine (Caseic: Prenistec) is a common plant grown throughout the southern regions of the Caseic Archipelago. Whether it is a fruit or a vegetable is unknown.

Caseic Orchid

The Caseic orchid is a harmless and rare plant, which typically grows to about the size and shape of a horse within a year. There are some theories that they are pollinated by horses, but most botanists consider these theories unlikely.

Caseic Spider Entangler

The Caseic spider entangler is a hazardous and venomous plant known to occasionally consume horses on their journeys between towns. The spider entangler is named because of its multitudinous vines which creep along roads, analgous to a spider's web. When a spider entangler detects prey on the road, such as a horse, and in one apocryphal case a meathawk, it pulls all of its vines across the road towards its centre, enclosing the prey. Each vine is coated with thorns, which secrete a venom into the prey, making it too weak to escape. The prey is then slowly dissolved in the plants centre as it absorbs the nutrients. The venom of the spider entangler is speculated to be an ingredient for the manufacturing of the drug tiyic.

Gooseweed

Gooseweed is an edible weed which commonly grows in northern Casea. It is typically considered a pest as it causes rice paddies to yield less rice.

Rice

Rice (Caseic: Awec) is a staple plant of western Casea and the island of Brisa, cultivated in rice paddies.
