Ukoghak Bankar is an Akarian comedian.
Biography
Early life
Ukoghak Bankar was born in Limeskar, Garvak in 55 PC. His father, Skotokitui Bankar, was a physical combat instructor at a local school, and raised Ukoghak with the expectation that he would become a disciplined fighter. Ukoghak did not take to his training, leading to a strained relationship with his father as he resisted the education. His father viewed this as a need for stronger discipline, eventually pulling Ukoghak out of school at age 14 to spar and practice full-time. Ukoghak despised this and attempted to attack his father with a knife. However, he was immediately disarmed and, according to his mother Thachorzar, "smashed flat through the wall and onto the floor," resulting in hospitalization.
While in the hospital, Ukoghak met Tedui Bolat, a boy roughly his age who had a part-time job as an errand boy for bedridden patients. Ukoghak and Tedui developed a close friendship as Ukoghak recovered, periodically sneaking out of the hospital to heckle passerby and throw rocks at store displays. Tedui eventually confided to Ukoghak that he did not actually have a job at the hospital, and had merely been coming in and working unpaid for months after elderly patients began ordering him around. Tedui told Ukoghak that he had dreams of being a performer, but was too afraid of the consequences of losing his "job" to commit to it. Ukoghak convinced Tedui that there would be nothing for him to lose since there was nothing for him to gain from the job. The two then decided to become a singing duo, but gave up on this after mutually agreeing that they were terrible singers.
Comedian
Ukoghak made his first attempts at comedy at age 17, performing short routines with Tedui. These proved massively unpopular; despite the relatively brief length of each performance, the duo were often heckled off of the stage before they could finish. Ukoghak blamed this on Tedui, and the two had a falling out after repeated arguments, resulting in Tedui moving to Oksken while Ukoghak continued his performances in Limeskar. Ukoghak's solo comedy routines were received more positively, though he struggled to gain any notoriety until 75 PC, when a joke he told caused an audience member to laugh continuously for three days. The event was covered by several Garvak-area news stations, and Ukoghak capitalized on the media attention.
During the war with the Lakar Kadrike, the nature of Ukoghak's routines became more topical, his jokes often parodying ongoing events. Audiences proved more receptive to this style of comedy, though many also began to criticize him for his often-contrived humor and forced demeanor. In 79 PC, Ukoghak began touring the Kingdom of Akaria.
Karinian Jackasses
In 80 PC, Ukoghak reconnected with Tedui Bolat, who had seen a minor degree of success as a comedian in Oksken. The two of them, along with Banokan-area comic Rogar Meksakoi, formed the Karinian Jackasses comedy group. Their first shows sold out within hours.
