== History ==
== History ==
Prior to 9 PC Okrit had not been a unified state, but a multitude of various different states with extensive historical relations, pertaining most prominently to their respective majority ethnicity. For more information, pertaining to the geographic and cultural areas of Okrit (see [[History of Okrit|the respective article]]). Historically relevant political entities and figures are [[Ukubian Civilization|the Ukubian Empire]] & [[Patyan Toi Serot]], the Kingdoms of [[Okso Kingdom|Okso]] & [[Kingdom of Masrit|Masrit]], the city states of [[Republic of Moklo|Moklo]] & [[Free Cities of the Omolai|the Omolai]] and non-state entities like [[The Tiger warriors|the Tiger Warriors]], [[Riders of Inun|the Riders of Inun]] and the [[Okriti Highlanders|various Highland Tribes]].
----Prior to eastern contact Okrit had historically been split between various powers, with some states of note being [[Ukubian Civilization|the Ukubian Empire]], and the Kingdom of [[Kingdom of Masrit|Masrit]], as well as non-state entities like [[The Tiger warriors|the Tiger Warriors]] and [[Okriti Highlanders|various Highland Tribes]].

Okrit first made contact with the eastern Archipelago in 4-3 9 PC when fishermen from [[Niueyjara Clans|Niueyjar]] made landfall near the city of Moklo, after previously severe weather conditions around the islands had cleared. Eastern intentions were predominantly trade and diplomacy oriented, opening unofficial contact in trade hub of [[Nakrama]]. Previously under the administration of a merchant council, Nakrama had entered a [[Nakrama Street War|power struggle]] between [[Oye]] noble families for control of the City. Powerful merchant [[Aakar Orit]] held the majority of control over the city when first contact was made with eastern powers and established a monopoly on trade and communication with the nations of the Eastern Archipelago.
Okrit first made contact with the outside world when climate conditions caused formerly severe storms to clear in the seas between Okrit and the greater Attu Archipelago to the east. First contact was made in 7 PC when fisherman from [[Niueyjara Clans|Niueyjar]] made landfall near the city of Moklo. From 7 PC to 8 PC relations and formal communications began when sailors of various nations began to arrive in Okrit with intentions to trade. These trading intentions directed them to [[Nakrama|Nkrama]], an economically powerful city state that sat at the apex of the trade flow between the west and east of the Islands. A prominent member of Nkrama's economy was spice merchant [[Aakar Orit]], a powerful [[Oye]] nobleman who had soon gained a social monopoly on interaction and trade with easterners through sabotage and assassinations. By 9PC, Nkrama began to suffer an outbreak of [[Purple Fever]], a disease which heavily effected population numbers as well as economic demand, further strengthening Orit's influence. It was at this point that Orit would begin to hire a number of mercenaries and bribe various officials for de facto control over the city and restricting eastern traders to Nkrama, before declaring himself the leader of all Okrit to begin establishing relations with national leaders in the eastern Attu archipelago.

After eastern contact, the [[Aakar Noble Family|Aakar family]] asserted full control over Nakrama and began to consolidate influence over the [[Straight of Omolai|Omolai]] region after aquiring medical supplies during the initial outbreak of [[Purple Fever]]. When formal communication were opened in 12 PC with Orit's submission into the [[Inter-governmental Radio System|IGRS]], he presented himself as a representative of the entire islands, a claim he would quickly make true through bribery, informal deals and conquest through mercenaries wielding firearms, which weren't present prior to eastern contact, securing authority over a majority of the islands by 13 PC. The unified government was characterized by corruption and frequent use of violent force by authorities. In 17 PC the outbreak of the [[Nakrama Riots|Nakrama riots]] caused the Aakar family to flee to [[Kingdom of Akaria|Akaria]], who quickly entered an alliance and provided aid in quelling the violence for access to resources and for allowing Akarian missionaries to enter Okrit, though this alliance would eventually fade.
After a series of conquests through mercenaries, foreign trade and technology and bribes, Orit had secured a fair portion of Okrit and gained ties military ties with [[Kingdom of Akaria|Akaria]] through then Living King, [[Harakar Oken]].

In 24 PC Orit claimed to receive visions in his sleep predicting his death. Up until this point, the government consisted of various informal connections and agreements between regional authorities and powerful individuals. Orit's proclaimed visions prompted him to begin creating a formal structure of government, forming the [[United Okriti Republic]]. Provincial elections began in 29 PC with a Dakma of 20 out of the 40 seats being formed at the end of the year. Presidential elections began the following year in 30 PC with the eventual ascension of East Omolai Governor and son of Aakar Orit, [[Aakar Byenama]] to the presidency after Orit abdicated his position due to worsening health.

=== Okriti silent period ===
Following Aakar Byenama's ascension to the presidency in 30 PC all known communications between Okrit and the outside world completely ceased until 42 PC, in a period often referred to as '[[Okriti Silent Period|the silent period]]'. This period was characterized by strict curfews, harsh punishment and heavy restriction of speech and movement as enforced by the [[Impeka]], a military secret police formed from veterans of the Orit regime and other experienced military enforcers. The Silent Period served to secure the political power and control of Aakar Byenama and his associated political comrades 'the klatabon', literally "tool of oppression". During this time many social, political and legal policies were enforced that directly violated the rights of individuals, most notably the or 'jamaqio' or 'darkening', which entailed the forced cultural and racial assimilation of foreigners in Okrit, most notably Akarians who had moved to Okrit as part of the various cooperative programs conducted during the Akaria-Okrit alliance. Other noteworthy characteristics of the period include military conscription, forced labour in mines & arms factories, including children, as well as heavy usage of propaganda invoking Okriti cultural heritage and nationalism, leading to the rise of [[Ofot]] traditional medicine-practitioner turned radio host [[Katopo Naka]] to Byenama's cadre.

=== International resurgence ===
The nation of Okrit returned to the international stage in 42 PC when Okrit's de facto navy and national trading company, the [[West Attu Trading Company|Okriti Merchant Navy]], landed on the disputed island of Soluga shortly after the joint-construction of a large lighthouse on the island, the inadvertent result of competing construction efforts between [[Republic of La Rossa|La Rossa]] and [[Deysachin]]. The OMN began to construct their own lighthouse alongside warehouses and a storefront for a lamp-oil and buildings supplies dispensary on the personal orders of Aakar Byenama. The lighthouse's construction initiated the first incidence of Okriti news and communication with international media in 10 years, as the president announced to the world that previous president Aakar Orit had passed away, dedicating the construction in his name. The hence titled 'Aakar Orit Lamp Oil & Building Supplies Dispensary' was built quickly due to assistance from Rossan and Deysachni builders, who claimed to have been "compelled" to do as such, whereupon its completion the remaining joint contingent of Rossan, Deysachni and Okriti workers aided a recently arrived [[Dvergur]] host in building their own lighthouse. This event, that not only served as Okrit's return to international politics, initiated an international dialogue between the relevant parties that resulted in the [[The House of Light|House of Light]] political alliance.

From 42 PC onwards Okrit re-engaged in trade at an international level, initiating a major arms deal with the [[Republic of Utlia]], and maintaining a consistent stream of communication with international media, providing information of political and cultural nature. The following period saw the expansion of the OMN at a large level across the archipelago, beginning of operations in the territory of other nations. The expansion of the OMN and Okrit's rapid industrialization led to a growing concern in workers' rights and eventual protests, led by unionist spokesperson [[Daham Dinade]], as well as the beginning of Okrit's participation in the [[House of Light|HoL's invasion of Niueyjar]] in 51-52 PC. The nation's participation in the invasion of Niueyjar coincided in ramping public discontent, culminating in riots as protests against decreasing working conditions and government corruption were met with police violence. This moment of political upheaval only continued as protest leader Daham Dinade was eventually arrested and died in police custody, leading to the formation of the [[Tiger Warriors|third Tiger Warriors]] and further increase in political violence in Okrit.

=== Modakist uprising ===
Upon the Deysachni-led invasion of [[Niueyjar]] initiated a total war between the [[Confederated Nations of Niueyjar|CNN]] and the House of Light, Okriti participation in the war was initially supportive, with the OMN supplying weapons, ammunition, rations and medical supplies to their HoL allies. OMN participation however would continuously increase due to the large amounts of revenue brought into the OMN Headquarters, an entity which, while separate from the government, was controlled by government officials. This led to the Dakma continuing to funnel support into the OMN while also officially bankrolling the republic's involvement in the war, leading to naval blockades, raiding, and eventual full-participation in a land invasion. In order to better facilitate the war effort, presidential and provincial elections has been paused indefinitely, a decision that only furthered public discontent as police violence and tiger warrior raids continued to plague the nation.

A section of the Dakma led by [[Modaka|Aakar Modaka Oken]], the half Akarian nephew of president Byenama, began to petition the Dakma to halt military involvement in order to resume the elections, a movement which had a large amount of public backing alongside the support of powerful government members such as the Udumap of Masrit.

<nowiki>= notes: petition gets ignored; lack of elections + terrorism + corruption + war+ naka shenanigans causes coupe, byenama is exiled and OMN seperated from the government and renamed to WATC =</nowiki>

Okrit was not a unified nation prior to the establishment of the [[Aakar Orit]] led [[Okriti Federated Government|union government]], which persisted through having a monopoly on trade and communication with the east. From 9PC to 23PC Okrit had no official bureaucratic structure and operated entirely as an informal despotic system favouring those with political, financial and military ties to Aakar Orit and his various trade routes to Nkrama.

In 24PC an official announcement was made by Aakar Orit that his administration would officially form a formalised government, claiming he had done so after having seen visions of his death, unofficially admitting to the global community that Okrit's united government was a sham. This new government would be a Democratic Federation of 40 governmental divisions known as provinces, with the Head of State being the President.

Each province would have a respective Provincial Governor elected via public democratic elections, sans the special provinces of [[Kingdom of Masrit|Masrit]] and the [[Taaqba Confederacy|Taaqba federation]] which would continue under the traditional rulership of their respective traditional governances. The governor of the Masrit province will be the current Udumap of Masrit, the Taaqba federation will have three individuals representing the federation under 1 seat. These 40 governors would form a parliament known as the [[Okriti Federated Government|Dakma]], headed by a chairman whom would be the most senior of the Dakma, and chosen by the President should the former chairman resign or die. The president would be aided by an advisory council of 15 persons, 7 of which are seats guaranteed to members of the Dakma, those being the Chairperson, Udumap of Masrit, the lords of the Taaqba (as 3 individuals), and the current governors of the provinces of Okso and Akoni. The 8 other seats are the Master of Arms and heads of Education, Agriculture, Transport, Communication, Cultural affairs and Trade.

The first provincial elections began in 29PC, ending in mid 30PC. The eventual Dakma only consisted of 20 of the 40 seats, as the bureaucratic infrastructures in the majority of the Highland provinces had not been fully established.
As of 24PC this system has not been finalised, and no systems are yet in place for the election of the President. The Aakar Orit government has set 30PC as the date of finalisation of the government, however the likelihood of this being met is dubious.

== Geography ==
The archipelago of Okrit consists of two main islands separated on an East-West axis by a shallow straight. The eastern island of [[Onomat]] is the largest island within the archipelago and is home to the majority of the population. The western island of [[Waaq]], whilst less densely inhabited, still maintains substantial influence throughout all the islands. The straight that separates the two islands is known throughout the archipelago as the [[Straight of Omolai|Omolai]].

The eastern island of the [[Onomat]] is the largest island both in landmass and population within the archipelago and is home to the majority of the population, with a primarily flat and wet lowlands in the west that transition into the mountainous highlands in the east. The western island of [[Waaq]] is comparatively drier and has a smaller, less dense population, however maintains substantial influence due to its heavy concentration of mineral resources. The largest city and national capital is [[Nakrama]], located on the Onomati coast of the Omolai.
[[File:Okrit biomes.png|left|thumb|A map of the general biomes present on Okrit]]
[[File:Okrit biomes.png|left|thumb|A map of the general biomes present on Okrit]]
Okrit as a whole experiences a tropical climate, however its greatly varying geography gives way to a large diversity of ecosystems, and a large variety of unique fauna and flora. Okrit experiences a monsoon climate with the calendar year experiencing a wet and dry season, with the years themselves oscillating between mild and extreme phases.
Onomat is geographically split into the lowlands and highlands in the west and east respectively. The lowlands cover a mostly flat plain that is at its flattest at the westernmost point, become gradually more coarse and hilly heading eastwards. The western lowlands are majority forested, giving way to grasslands and coastal marshes in the rockier eastern terrain. Eventually the hillsides give way to the mountains of the highlands, which while comparatively drier, still hold a large diversity of resources and ecosystems.

Okriti conventions split the landscape between the [[Okriti Highlands|Highlands]], comprising the mountainous Onomati east, and the lowlands, being the remainder of the Onomat and the other islands, excluding the island of [[Anandim]], directly south of the highlands, where it is often included for cultural reasons. What compromises the lowlands of Onomat is primarily the land adjacent to the [[Olowai|Olowai River]], including the grasslands in the valleys and hills at the foot of the highlands, though the drier scrub is included in the highlands.
The eastern and coastal regions of Waaq are similarly forested and share a large range of [[Flora of Okrit|flora]] and [[Fauna of Okrit|fauna]], however gives way to much drier terrain inland. Most of the island is dominated by savannah and arid scrubland which sprawls up the horseshoe shaped mountainside, which plateaus in the middle, giving way to harsh desert.

Waaq is much less wet and forested compared to the Onomat, including the highlands. Waaq's forested and grassy areas are restricted to the coastal regions, with the densest vegetation occurring along the Omolai. Waaq's mass is dominated by cradle-like mountain range, further restricting the already small amount of inland raianfall. Due to the rain shadow, the mountain sides and the open southern range are primarily dry scrub, with desert in the very centre.

The entirety of the islands have a large variety of [[Flora of Okrit|flora]] and [[Fauna of Okrit|fauna]] unique only to Okrit, and even to certain islands and regions themselves. A large variety of unique fauna are found in the Highlands as the vast mountain ranges have created barriers between multiple unique ecosystems, though human settlement has heavily impacted their ecosystems.

----The various people groups of Okrit maintain a vast array of distinct cultural identities that have been solidified over the course of history on the archipelago. While this does indeed make for a great multitude of differences and subsequent conflicts between the groups, years of mutual influence and shared heritage still shine through. Okriti cultures are usually formed around the traditional ethnic identities of the 5 lowland groups and their further differences with the highlanders, though these lines are not always accurate for describing Okriti cultural groups and language.

=== Ethnic divides ===
⚫
The largest cultural divides mostly lie along equally drastic geographical divides, the most prominent of which being the separation of the [[Okriti Highlanders|highlanders]] from the lowlanders. The lowlander denominations make up the majority of the population of Okrit, and subsequently have the most cultural and political influence in the nation. Traditionally, the lowlanders are split into 5 cultural groups excluding the [[Peye]] of the southern islands, those being the [[Amata]], [[Efiyye]], [[Oye]], [[Ofot]] & [[Taaqbal]], however regional variation and influences are prevalent throughout all of them. The cultural divides between the ethnicities are primarily historical, being separated into their own respective kingdoms, operating on their own laws and maintaining areas of cultural and linguistic homogeneity. Though this is primarily the case historically, multi-ethnic entities have arisen to major prominence within Okrit, such as the [[Ukubian Civilization|Ukubian Empire]] and Riders of Inun.

=== Shared characteristics ===
=== Shared characteristics ===
Although ethnically divided and extremely diverse in cultural beliefs, practices and identities, the nations of Okrit share a multitude of similar characteristics that unite them as a people, separate from the other nations of the archipelago. The peoples of Okrit generally share the same laws and traditions around [[Okriti Naming Convention|naming conventions]], with single names being common, with family and clan names preceding given names when present, often accompanied by titles. Specificities around naming convention will differ between communities, their respective ethnic and cultural identity as well as their [[Okriti Languages|languages]].

A distinct aspect of Okrit's shared culture is in its [[Okriti Spirituality|spirituality and religion]], where the peoples of the islands foremost hold a shared concept of some greater spiritual 'substance' or 'matter' that quantifies someone's ability and worth. This 'spiritual substance' encompasses all aspects of reality and is inherent in everything, however the quantity of it can differ, and its effects will likewise differ depending on quantity present. This 'substance' can be gained, lost, concentrated and bestowed upon by individuals and lineages, and is often extended to animals and inanimate objects. This aspect of Okriti culture permeates a lot of society. Superstition, beliefs around black magic and folkloric stories are commonplace and sometimes incorporated into law.
==== Calender ====
Okrit foremost follows a lunar calendar, modified from the model Ukubian model originating in the highlands. Although other cultures have different set points for when dates are marked from, the overall model is the same, being a cycle of a set period of years based on lunar rotations.

One such shared superstition is the cultural taboo of extending one's finger, which is is believed to turn the finger into a conduit that concentrates one's spiritual power upon a target. Pointing is thus an extremely contentious action within Okrit, and should be treated with extreme caution and respect. The pointing of one's finger is retained for expressing incredibly extreme emotion, most often in anger for proclaiming one's contempt or displeasure. Pointing is associated primarily with curses and bad omens, epitomized in the Amata practice of [[Amata#Maitoro|maitoro]], however pointing can be affiliated with great boons and blessings. Elders will often point to their chosen successor whilst proclaiming as such, in a way passing not only their legal inheritance but imbuing the successor with their spiritual power, such as in Ofot tradition, where great kings and leaders are foretold by the appearance of a pointing spirit, known as the '[[Gimra|Empty shirt man]]'.
==== Superstition ====
In Okriti spirituality, extending one's finger serves to concentrate their spiritual power into the direction the user is pointing, making pointing an extremely contentious action and should be treated with extreme caution and respect. The pointing of one's finger is commonplace in expressing incredibly extreme emotion and i believed to invoke the power of spirits, heavily influencing the subject individual, primarily for the exclaiming contempt of another person or for casting curses. It is common among the Amata and the Affiliated tiger warriors to point one's finger at the target individual when declaring [[Amata#Maitoro|maitoro]].

==== Naming customs ====
== Economy ==
----Historically, Okrit's economy focused on trade within the islands, minerals mined in Waaq such as copper, gold, iron and jewels were shipped to the Onomati lowlands in exchange for food and spices. The highlands also bare a large variety of mineral, resources, however the creation of Highland silk is the most prominent, along with multiple other luxury goods. The trade of these goods was often the backbone of the historical eastern states such as Okso & Moklo, who thrived off of the trade of silk, furs, pearls and narcotics derived from highland biota. The highlands' economic value has often made it the target of Onomati conquests, and to this day the highlands is an incredibly valued region, despite the inhospitable conditions and aggressive highland clans. Waaqi influence has also interrupted Onomati conquest as the acquisition of highland minerals would overshadow those produced in Waaq, depriving the island of it's major trade good in the exchange for food, on which the Waaqi rely on Onomat.
The common custom among the Okriti lowlanders is to have a familial name followed by a personal name, with a title, patronym or nickname sometimes following. Specificities within these naming customs varies between the people groups, such as naming upon marriage, how a name is passed down or the necessity of a third or fourth name.

Since union and contact with the east, the economy has since changed to quite a degree, where the whole archipelago must balance its inner economy and that of it's national economy and trade with other nations, most prominently Akaria. The acquiescence of the highlands has become an integral issue in Okriti politics as to the role it may play in boosting the national economy, as the production and import of military, medicinal and machine goods have increased to facilitate the process. While it is of debate whether or not the current investment will lead to worthwhile output, the government maintains a staunch focus on this matter, efforts on which have multiplied since the ascension of [[Aakar Byenama]] into the presidency.

----:)
As of 24PC the majority of the Okriti government are comprised of ethnic Oye ministers who foremost speak [[Omolain Language|Omolain]], making it the de facto official language of Okrit. Various other languages are spoken primarily by other ethnic groups, all languages of the lowlander ethnicities belonging to the [[Languages of Okrit|same language family]], including [[Masriti Language|Masriti]], the lingua franca of the [[kingdom of Masrit]].

== Economy ==
Historically Okrit had an economy focused on the trade of minerals from Waaq to the Onomat lowlands in exchange for food. The highlands bare a large variety of resources mineral, dietary and luxury, making it of very high value. The Onomati lowlanders have historically attempted to conquer the highlands countless times, however this has been hindered by the rough terrain and hostility of the highlanders alongside political plays of the Waaqi who rely primarily on Onomati for food supply.

Okrit, or The United Okriti Republic, is an island nation in Brchipelago comprised of several smaller islands. Formerly, Okrit remained completely isolated from the rest of the world for many years due to atmospheric phenomena causing thick fog and storms. In 9 PC, these storms had cleared to the point where ships from the east finally made contact with the archipelago.

History

Prior to eastern contact Okrit had historically been split between various powers, with some states of note being the Ukubian Empire, and the Kingdom of Masrit, as well as non-state entities like the Tiger Warriors and various Highland Tribes.

Okrit first made contact with the eastern Archipelago in 4-3 9 PC when fishermen from Niueyjar made landfall near the city of Moklo, after previously severe weather conditions around the islands had cleared. Eastern intentions were predominantly trade and diplomacy oriented, opening unofficial contact in trade hub of Nakrama. Following Aakar Byenama's ascension to the presidency in 30 PC all known communications between Okrit and the outside world completely ceased until 42 PC, in a period often referred to as 'the silent period'. This period was characterized by strict curfews, harsh punishment and heavy restriction of speech and movement as enforced by the Impeka, a military secret police formed from veterans of the Orit regime and other experienced military enforcers. The nation of Okrit returned to the international stage in 42 PC when Okrit's de facto navy and national trading company, the Okriti Merchant Navy, landed on the disputed island of Soluga shortly after the joint-construction of a large lighthouse on the island, the inadvertent result of competing construction efforts between La Rossa and Deysachin. The hence titled 'Aakar Orit Lamp Oil & Building Supplies Dispensary' was built quickly due to assistance from Rossan and Deysachni builders, who claimed to have been "compelled" to do as such, whereupon its completion the remaining joint contingent of Rossan, Deysachni and Okriti workers aided a recently arrived Dvergur host in building their own lighthouse. This event, that not only served as Okrit's return to international politics, initiated an international dialogue between the relevant parties that resulted in the House of Light political alliance.

From 42 PC onwards Okrit re-engaged in trade at an international level, initiating a major arms deal with the Republic of Utlia, and maintaining a consistent stream of communication with international media, providing information of political and cultural nature. The following period saw the expansion of the OMN at a large level across the archipelago, beginning of operations in the territory of other nations. The expansion of the OMN and Okrit's rapid industrialization led to a growing concern in workers' rights and eventual protests, led by unionist spokesperson Daham Dinade, as well as the beginning of Okrit's participation in the HoL's invasion of Niueyjar in 51-52 PC. The nation's participation in the invasion of Niueyjar coincided in ramping public discontent, culminating in riots as protests against decreasing working conditions and government corruption were met with police violence. This moment of political upheaval only continued as protest leader Daham Dinade was eventually arrested and died in police custody, leading to the formation of the third Tiger Warriors and further increase in political violence in Okrit.

Modakist uprising

Upon the Deysachni-led invasion of Niueyjar initiated a total war between the CNN and the House of Light, Okriti participation in the war was initially supportive, with the OMN supplying weapons, ammunition, rations and medical supplies to their HoL allies.

A section of the Dakma led by Aakar Modaka Oken, the half Akarian nephew of president Byenama, began to petition the Dakma to halt military involvement in order to resume the elections, a movement which had a large amount of public backing alongside the support of powerful government members such as the Udumap of Masrit.

= notes: petition gets ignored; lack of elections + terrorism + corruption + war+ naka shenanigans causes coupe, byenama is exiled and OMN seperated from the government and renamed to WATC =

Government

The 30 provinces of Okrit.

Okrit was not a unified nation prior to the establishment of the Aakar Orit led union government, which persisted through having a monopoly on trade and communication with the east.

Each province would have a respective Provincial Governor elected via public democratic elections, sans the special provinces of Masrit and the Taaqba federation which would continue under the traditional rulership of their respective traditional governances. The governor of the Masrit province will be the current Udumap of Masrit, the Taaqba federation will have three individuals representing the federation under 1 seat. The 40 provincial governor seats would form a parliament known as the Dakma, headed by a chairman whom would be the most senior of the Dakma as chosen by the President. This position is retained throughout that membr's tenure on the Dakma and would only be reassigned should the former chairman lose his provincial seat, resign, or die. The 8 other seats are the heads of the various other sections of the Okriti government, being the Master of Arms and heads of Education, Agriculture, Transport, Communication, Cultural affairs and Trade.

The first provincial elections began in 29PC, ending in mid 30PC. The eventual Dakma only consisted of 20 of the 40 seats, as the bureaucratic infrastructures in the majority of the Highland provinces had not been fully established.

Geography

The archipelago of Okrit consists of two main islands separated on an East-West axis by a shallow strait known as the Omolai. The eastern island of the Onomat is the largest island both in landmass and population within the archipelago and is home to the majority of the population, with a primarily flat and wet lowlands in the west that transition into the mountainous highlands in the east. The western island of Waaq is comparatively drier and has a smaller, less dense population, however maintains substantial influence due to its heavy concentration of mineral resources. The largest city and national capital is Nakrama, located on the Onomati coast of the Omolai.

A map of the general biomes present on Okrit

Okrit as a whole experiences a tropical climate, however its greatly varying geography gives way to a large diversity of ecosystems, and a large variety of unique fauna and flora. Okrit experiences a monsoon climate with the calendar year experiencing a wet and dry season, with the years themselves oscillating between mild and extreme phases.

Okriti conventions split the landscape between the Highlands, comprising the mountainous Onomati east, and the lowlands, being the remainder of the Onomat and the other islands, excluding the island of Anandim, directly south of the highlands, where it is often included for cultural reasons. What compromises the lowlands of Onomat is primarily the land adjacent to the Olowai River, including the grasslands in the valleys and hills at the foot of the highlands, though the drier scrub is included in the highlands.

The entirety of the islands have a large variety of flora and fauna unique only to Okrit, and even to certain islands and regions themselves. A large variety of unique fauna are found in the Highlands as the vast mountain ranges have created barriers between multiple unique ecosystems, though human settlement has heavily impacted their ecosystems.

Culture

Map of the traditional ethnic denominations

The various people groups of Okrit maintain a vast array of distinct cultural identities that have been solidified over the course of history on the archipelago.

Ethnic divides

The largest cultural divides mostly lie along equally drastic geographical divides, the most prominent of which being the separation of the highlanders from the lowlanders. The lowlander denominations make up the majority of the population of Okrit, and subsequently have the most cultural and political influence in the nation. Traditionally, the lowlanders are split into 5 cultural groups excluding the Peye of the southern islands, those being the Amata, Efiyye, Oye, Ofot & Taaqbal, however regional variation and influences are prevalent throughout all of them. The cultural divides between the ethnicities are primarily historical, being separated into their own respective kingdoms, operating on their own laws and maintaining areas of cultural and linguistic homogeneity. Though this is primarily the case historically, multi-ethnic entities have arisen to major prominence within Okrit, such as the Ukubian Empire and Riders of Inun.

Shared characteristics

Although ethnically divided and extremely diverse in cultural beliefs, practices and identities, the nations of Okrit share a multitude of similar characteristics that unite them as a people, separate from the other nations of the archipelago. The peoples of Okrit generally share the same laws and traditions around naming conventions, with single names being common, with family and clan names preceding given names when present, often accompanied by titles. Specificities around naming convention will differ between communities, their respective ethnic and cultural identity as well as their languages.

A distinct aspect of Okrit's shared culture is in its spirituality and religion, where the peoples of the islands foremost hold a shared concept of some greater spiritual 'substance' or 'matter' that quantifies someone's ability and worth.

Pointing is associated primarily with curses and bad omens, epitomized in the Amata practice of maitoro, however pointing can be affiliated with great boons and blessings. Elders will often point to their chosen successor whilst proclaiming as such, in a way passing not only their legal inheritance but imbuing the successor with their spiritual power, such as in Ofot tradition, where great kings and leaders are foretold by the appearance of a pointing spirit, known as the 'Empty shirt man'.

Economy

Historically, Okrit's economy focused on trade within the islands, minerals mined in Waaq such as copper, gold, iron and jewels were shipped to the Onomati lowlands in exchange for food and spices.

While it is of debate whether or not the current investment will lead to worthwhile output, the government maintains a staunch focus on this matter, efforts on which have multiplied since the ascension of Aakar Byenama into the presidency.
