Storm was not a fan of the Deram as they had been rivals for many years but he felt that stopping Harakar was worth putting aside old rivalries. He began exchanging letters with Leader of the Deram, Ara Deram in late 7 PC in the letter Storm tried to convince Ara that there was an alliance between the Oken and the Arkara, who were ancient enemies of the Deram.
