Adisa Aram is a former Grand Magister of T'vaqi.
Early life
Born to a lower middle-class family in the city of Thono, Adisa Aram was raised from birth with the expectation that she would become a factory worker. Aram claims to have never been exposed to any form of education beyond primary schooling by her family. Aram, however, studied rigorously during her free time without the knowledge of her parents; she received an exceptional score of 35 on the Cognitive Capacity Exam. Though such a score grants free tuition to the nation's High Institutes of the Arts and Sciences, Aram was unable to afford the cost of living in Ishiq. She began working as an industrial furnace operator in one of Thono's many factories to raise money.
Injury
At the age of 18, a faulty lever caused Aram to reach her left arm into an active furnace. Her arm, which quickly suffered severe burns, became jammed within the grille of the furnace; by the time it could be dislodged, the limb had been rendered nonfunctional and required swift amputation. Emergency medical services successfully amputated Aram's arm, though the cost of the surgery set her Institute savings back several years. She demanded reimbursement for the damages caused by company that owned the factory, though the case was quickly rejected by the T'vaqi bureaucracy. Aram eventually found employment as a custodian for a local mortuary.
At age 24, the mortuary at which Aram worked fell victim to a robbery. The robbers held Aram at knifepoint in front of the mortuary's manager, demanding access to the valuables stored in each locker; when the manager attempted negotiation, a robber stabbed Aram in the left eye before he and the rest of the group forced their way into the grid's storage lockers. Emergency services were called in and prevented further damage to Aram's face. When admitted to a medical care building, Aram requested that the eye simply be removed, as it was the least expensive option.
Aram has personally stated that she feels no shame in her deformities, and instead views them as evidence that she is more resilient under intense pressure than most.
Political career and rule
In 40 PC, Aram received a large grant from the T'vaqi Bureau of Academic Achievement. This money allowed her to afford living in Ishiq and thus attend the High Institute of the Sciences, where she majored in geological studies. After proving herself to be exceptionally dedicated to her work, she was promoted to Magister three years later. She chose to end her studies and work in Ishiq full-time, where she met then-Senior Magister Dimasi V'sha while he gave a speech to the city's Magisters. V'sha claims to have immediately recognized Aram as an individual worthy of assuming his position, and appointed her as one of his Senior Magisters upon his election as Grand Magister in 50 PC.
After the retirement of Gmr. V'sha on 5-15 63 PC, Aram was voted to replace him in the ensuing election. Unbeknownst to any but herself and V'sha, V'sha had successfully conspired to rig the election in her favor, worried that Insi Q'so and Loqa Pili were a serious threat to the nation. Throughout her term, Aram generally tried to maintain amicable relations with other islands, though these efforts often failed due to outside circumstances. She pushed for a T'vaqi surrender as soon as the Tricade War began, eventually blackmailing Pili into giving up his side of the war effort. During the conflict, Aram married Elder Tainin Vedares as a show of peace.
After the end of the Tricade War and the election of Piqo Thipoqo, Aram turned her attention to domestic issues. She passed some successful bills improving wages for mine and factory laborers. Beginning in 77 PC, public perception of Aram had become very negative; this was due to the efforts of Thipoqo and Smr. T'tathos Mhodir, who had discovered evidence of her election fraud and planned to depose her. They spread several rumors to media outlets about Aram's personal life, making her seem untrustworthy to voters. These included the assertion that she was a "Kalami puppet" and had somehow faked her CC Score. Aram's term came to an end in 79 PC after Thipoqo pressured Dimasi V'sha into confessing to the election fraud at a public appearance. Aram, who was present at the event, publicly resigned immediately after.
Notable bills
The following is a list of notable bills proposed by Aram during her rule as Grand Magister.
| Date | Description | Outcome | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 63 PC | Re-establish all trade with Kalam. | Failed (1-2) | |
| 65 PC | Prevent Grand Magisters from leaving mainland T'vaqi without publicly declaring their purpose for doing so. | Passed (2-0) | Proposed while Gmr. Q'so was on a boat headed towards Vritona; as such, he was unable to vote on the matter. |
| 66 PC | Call back all TCP ships in foreign waters immediately. | Failed (1-2) | In response to the aggressive actions of T'vaqi Coastal Patrol in foreign waters prior to the Tricade War. |
| 67 PC | Provide immediate earthquake aid in the form of reconstruction supplies to Kalam. | Passed (2-1) | Aram argued that by leaving the House of Light, Kalam had removed itself from the Tricade War, and was thus no longer an enemy. She convinced Q'so to approve the bill with this logic. |
| 69 PC | Grant Senior Magisters a vote on all proposed bills, with each Senior Magister having half the voting power of one Grand Magister. | Passed (2-1) | The last bill ever decided by the Grand Council alone. |
| 76 PC | Raise the minimum legal wage for factory laborers living in settlements with populations of 25,000 or greater by 10%. Additionally, entitle all factory laborers nationwide to financial compensation in the event of a severe or debilitating workplace injury (regardless of whether Magisterial court determines compensation to be necessary), consisting of no less than 150% of weekly pay. | Passed (8-7) | |
| 77 PC | Classify the word Tolio as a first-tier invective, requiring its use in printed media to be restricted. | Passed (9-6) |
