Mholos is the third-largest city in T'vaqi, and the largest by land area.

History

One of the island's oldest existing settlements, Mholos was officially established in 504 TT by members of the Oqopot faction-state, which had recently acquired the land. The Oqopoti were predominantly farmers, and the Mholos area was composed almost entirely of arable land; they found great agricultural success in the area, and the settlement of Mholos quickly grew in population. Mholos acquired its name from the Mhoro fruit, which was first cultivated by the Oqopot. In the modern day, Mholos contains the largest portion of usable farmland in T'vaqi.

After the Second Unification of T'vaqi, growing industrialization resulted in the deprecation of much of T'vaqi's soil, making farming difficult to accomplish in rapidly urbanizing cities. The city of Mholos, though still growing industrially, took care to preserve existing plots of farmland. This caused many agricultural entities (most notably Panqona, the largest agricultural agency in the nation) to relocate to Mholos. The architecture of Mholos is uniquely arranged compared to other cities in T'vaqi due to its large area; the settlement is distinctly more spread out than its counterparts, though it still retains a high population density.

Mholos was the explicit target of Modhes Millitaria in their land invasion of T'vaqi during the Tricade War. The invasion never made it to the city, but panic nonetheless spread quickly, to the point that thousands of citizens began sheltering in the underground Bunker Network. Later, in 76 PC, the nation's first subterranean farming complex was constructed in the Mholos Bunker Network under the ownership of Panqona.

In culture

Many citizens of Mholos have developed what is termed the Mholosi accent, a dialect noticeably different from standard T'vaqi pronunciation. The most obvious difference is the Mholosi pronunciation of the letter (normally pronounced /o/), which is pronounced /ə/. The phoneme /ə/ normally only appears in the T'vaqi language when the letter follows a consonant. The Mholosi dialect also includes the interjection omodo, used to intentionally interrupt a speaking individual. These aspects of the Mholosi accent are commonly satirized and exaggerated in popular culture. Mholosi citizens may be stereotyped as rude or uncomprehending in media.
