N'isi is a small city located on the northern coast of T'vaqi, bordering Qhavo Bay.

History

Despite being situated on the coast of T'vaqi, an area historically difficult to settle due to interference from the Storm, N'isi has been continuously inhabited for upwards of 250 years; this is highly atypical of coastal settlements. The settlement was initially founded in 215 TT by Omo V'sha, a traveling businessman and former fisherman who had received funding from the Grand Council to establish a fishing community near Qhavo Bay. At the time, previously constructed settlements near the bay had been largely unsuccessful, often becoming abandoned due to a lack of resources. A widespread apocryphal story, likely invented and spread by V'sha himself, asserts that when he began his travels, he gained the ability to communicate with bodies of water. The story claims that V'sha, traveling with his wife and three children, would periodically stop on his journey to receive directions from distant waves. During a particularly violent thunderstorm, it is alleged that V'sha and his family were "spared" by dangerous and sickness-inducing rain, emerging completely dry. The group finally arrived at the future site of the town under a crescent moon. V'sha supposedly retained his ability throughout his life, taking the bay's advice with regards to the most lucrative fishing spots and best locations to construct a port. On the day of his death, he is purported to have wished goodbye to his family in the early morning, wading into the water of the bay until fully submerged during the sunrise. His body has not been recovered, providing some validity to this claim. Former Grand Magister and representative speaker Dimasi V'sha was the great-great-great-grandson of Omo V'sha.

It is very likely that V'sha did not, in fact, possess his supposed ability, and was instead very lucky with regards to navigation, fishing, and construction. The settlement's fishing industry, moderately successful to begin with, would expand steadily with each year, resulting in economic and population growth. While small compared to many inland cities, the growth of N'isi has made it one of the largest coastal cities in T'vaqi.

Since Modhes were granted legal recognition in 69 PC, N'isi has had the second-highest density of Modhes in T'vaqi. N'isi Temple, the second Modhes temple to be constructed on the island, was built in 81 PC by Mahant Kguncu'i Achofza.

Economy

The economy of N'isi is largely based around fishing, as fish are plentiful in and around Qhavo Bay. Fishing remained the city's only source of revenue for decades after its establishment. Following T'vaqi's Calming, however, it was quickly realized that the city's beaches and unobstructed view of the ocean provide great incentive for tourism. N'isi receives an average of 2,000 tourists per year during the summer months, during which N'isi holds several festivals celebrating various aspects of the city's culture and history.

The emblem of N'isi depicts a small boat on the waves of the ocean. The boat is angled towards a depiction of the crescent moon, symbolic of Omo V'sha's journey.
